Swapping Two Players Openly On The Block

Created by: bruinsdude77
Team: 2021-22 Boston Bruins
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 8, 2021
Published: Dec. 8, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Evander Kane has his off-ice issues, that's for sure. Yet, in the midst of an ongoing bankruptcy suit and crumbling marriage, he recorded 22 goals and 49 points in 56 games. He's scored at a 30+ goal pace in each of the past five seasons. I get that the Sharks' locker room doesn't want him back, but the NHL as a whole would be silly to turn their back on him. San Jose could pay him $7MM to play in the AHL this year and then buy him out for $16MM against the cap over the next six years only to watch him sign with someone else, potentially even a Pacific rival. Or instead they could eat half of his remaining contract for $14MM against the cap over this year and the next three years, move him to a team on the other side of the country, and get back a player who can slot in as a middle six forward for about the same total cap this year as having Kane on the roster. Meanwhile, Boston actually saves cap space, brings Kane into an organization with great leadership and culture, and add the goal-scoring and physicality boost they need. Sure, he's not a center, but he would make life easier for whoever is centering his line. At just $3.5MM against the cap, it's worth the off-ice risk to bring him in, especially when DeBrusk wants out (and with his QO likely wasn't going to be here beyond this season anyhow).

Oh and with that cap space - plenty of room to sign Rask to a pro-rated deal and add at the deadline. If the playoffs started today, the B's are wild card No. 1 and play the Rangers in the first round and the winner of Caps-Canes in the second round. Is anyone afraid of that? Add Kane, Rask, and a rental center and/or defenseman to the mix and the Bs could be as good as any team in the league.

Kane did that playing the same teams over and over in a crappy division.

what bout the year before? or the year before that? or the year before that year?
plus playing Vegas, Minnesota, Colorado wasn't that easy!
if you argue he's a locker room cancer I would agree, but arguing his skill or production is silly.

I just wouldn't count on him for sure repeating the season he had, that's all.

Sorry, didn't realize how good his couple prior seasons were.

yea it's why I almost want to give him another chance! sharks could desperately use his offensive abilities and play on Hertl line. but Hertl hates Kane and if we brought bake Kane Hertl is as good as gone.

As a Sharks fan, is this a trade you would be interested in, assuming Kane returning to the team is not an option?

yes it is. Debrusk and Labanc together on the 3rd line or 2nd line could work for both players. Debrusk is a sniper and Labanc has a knack for finding players in tight, that’s why even though he has spent most of the season on the 4th line he’s still on our top power play unit.
i would also do Labanc for Debrusk but the Kane for Debrusk would work better for us this season if it can be pulled off.
