TDLs Part 5

Team: 2021-22 Calgary Flames
Description
This team has proven me wrong! I thought they were going to be terrible this year, but so far they have been excellent with Markstrom looking like a vezina candidate. They are a team that can go all in with they way they’ve been playing so far. The defense and the goaltending are really good so not much has to be done there. They could however, use another forward or two who can get a lot of points, since that’s what they need most. It’s mainly been the first line and Mangiapane scoring all the goals. As always, feel free to give feedback.
Trades
1.
CGY
  1. Dvorak, Christian
  2. Toffoli, Tyler
MTL
  1. Monahan, Sean
  2. 2022 1st round pick (CGY)
  3. 2023 2nd round pick (CGY)
Additional Details:
A blockbuster trade with the Habs. Flames could use a second line winger and center, and these two can fit well. Montreal is in need of a rebuild so they can get a good return if they trade these two, and Monahan looks like a trade candidate for the Flames. I would say Dvorak = Monahan and Toffoli = a first and a second.
2.
CGY
  1. 2022 4th round pick (WSH)
WSH
  1. Zadorov, Nikita ($937,500 retained)
Additional Details:
Anyone who can use an extra defenseman so the flames can get under the cap for this year. Assuming Valimaki is ready to be a full time NHLer by the trade deadline.
Buyouts
  • Troy Brouwer: $1,500,000
Retained Salary Transactions
  • Nikita Zadorov: $937,500 (25%)

Why change whats working tho? CGY looks playoff built. I think depth pieces would be better here rather then a BB for Monahan.

If they can snag someone like Debrusk from BOS, thatll solidify them even more then they are

I would keep Monahan for sure. Love to have him on the Habs Toffoli for 1st and 2nd ok done deal.
Stay away from Debrusk!

DeBrusk would cost more than most rental options at his caliber and Flames would only be renting him anyways. Plus Calgary is already extremely deep at LW with more in the system (ie Pelletier), A trade like this would add a needed top 9 RHS as well as changing Monahan for 2 defensively strong players. Would be a very Sutter oriented deadline move. Similar to the Carter trade who at the time was 27 years old and in year 1 of an 11 year long deal

I'd keep Dvorak over Monahan. He hasn't been as good as we hoped, but that's true for most of the team this year. Monahan would do no better, cost more, and be gone sooner.
