Things are going well now but

Team: 2021-22 Dallas Stars
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 8, 2021
Published: Dec. 8, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
In my honest opinion this team is relying way too much on one line. Without JRob-Hintz-Pavs line this team would sink as fast as a broken submarine. A long-term injury for one of those players, or Heiskanen, would decimate this team completely.

I'd rather commit to a retool of some sort, and now that Stars is doing well they should be able to move assets for good price.

Moving Seguin and Benn would be ideal for a retool/rebuild process, but honestly I don't think it's possible to unload these contracts in a sensible manner.

Also disclaimer to the PIT trade - Aston Reese can be replaced with the likes of Danton Heinen as well, just had to add a player with $1M+ contract to make the money work.
Trades
1.
BUF
  1. Khudobin, Anton
Additional Details:
I've seen some rumors about BUF being interested in the guy, but they have too many goalies to take one in, so they trade an AHL guy in exchange for a more expensive NHL guy.
2.
DAL
  1. Pajuniemi, Lauri
  2. Reunanen, Tarmo
  3. 2022 1st round pick (NYR)
NYR
  1. Pavelski, Joe
  2. Sekera, Andrej
Additional Details:
NYR adds some veteran presence for their playoff run. DAL adds some futures.
3.
DAL
  1. Carrier, William
  2. Elvenes, Lucas
  3. Smith, Reilly
  4. 2023 1st round pick (VGK)
Additional Details:
If the condition from the Eichel trade holds true and VGK is in bottom-10 this year as unlikely as it is, then DAL receives a 2024 1st round pick instead since this pick is heading to Buffalo.
VGK
  1. Klingberg, John ($2,125,000 retained)
Additional Details:
An elite offensive D-man to bolster a PP which hasn't been working that well. Also VGK uses the chance to create some cap space to make room for Eichel, too.
4.
DAL
  1. Aston-Reese, Zach
  2. Kapanen, Kasperi
  3. 2023 2nd round pick (PIT)
PIT
  1. Gurianov, Denis
  2. Radulov, Alexander ($3,125,000 retained)
  3. 2023 5th round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
Pens PP is 8th worst in the league as of now. This trade would bolster up their PP, as well as create a Russian 2nd line for Malkin to lead over.
5.
DAL
  1. Dermott, Travis
  2. Rindell, Axel [Reserve List]
  3. 2022 2nd round pick (TOR)
TOR
  1. Hanley, Joel
  2. Smith, Reilly ($2,500,000 retained)
Additional Details:
TOR adds a scoring winger and a depth D-man at league minimum for their playoff run. DAL gathers futures.
6.
NYI
  1. Suter, Ryan
  2. 2022 4th round pick (DAL)
Additional Details:
I want to get rid of that term. NYI needs a TOP4 D, and Suter works in that role. Bailey has been meh this year. Think it's a relatively fair swap.
7.
8.
DAL
  1. 2022 3rd round pick (MIN)
9.
DAL
  1. Saarela, Aleksi [Reserve List]
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (FLA)
FLA
  1. Holtby, Braden
  2. 2022 5th round pick (DAL)
10.
DAL
  1. 2022 4th round pick (NSH)
  2. 2023 4th round pick (NSH)
NSH
  1. Raffl, Michael
  2. 2023 4th round pick (DAL)

I don’t see Florida doing that as they have Bobrovsky, and Knight as their two goalies.

Fail safe in case of injuries. At a low cost adding a goalie shouldb't bring them any trouble. Plus Knight's numbers have been pretty meh compared to Bob.

I would hope Bobrovsky would be playing better than Knight. He’s much older, more experienced, hasn’t been as good in years, and makes a ton! He should be playing this well as he is making 10M! I would also not give a decent prospect and a third for a goalie that wouldn’t even play, as he would be their third string.

You are going to give Nill a heart attack with all these trade. He is not used to work that hard on the open market.

Nill must be the lowest active GM in NHL history.

I don’t think the pens would do that. Radulov and Gurianov are both having pretty down years and Kapanen alone has almost as many points as both combined. Now add the fact that you’re adding a good defensive forward who leads the team in hits and a 2nd rounder, just doesn’t seem like a Hextall move. Maybe a GMJR move but he’s not with the team anymore.
The pens PP has actually been pretty good the last couple weeks too. I’d expect the PP to really get good when Rust and Malkin come back barring more injuries. And Kapanen and Malkin had really good chemistry last year. They’ll probably want to see if they still have it before trading Kapanen. Also don’t think they’d want to trade Kappy for less than they traded for him.

Offer to Pittsburgh is worth considering. Those two would bring more offense, and that's what they badly need, but the 2nd round pick might be a problem. Take out Dallas's pick and ask for 4th instead, then it's a deal.

Wouldn't do that. Gurianov and Kappy are close to equal, but I'd argue half retained Radulov would carry more value than ZAR (or any player of close to similar cost).

Why would Vegas take on another skilled puck moving defenseman? They have Theodore and Pietrangelo. Klingberg is good but what extra is he going to provide that will resolve Vegas' issues?

Well their PP is statistically bad. Klingberg brings them more depth and options in that regard.

Smith>Klingberg in terms of PP effect especially when Klingberg isn't bumping Pietro out. Vegas has a really bad system and Klingberg isn't solving it by being another shot from the point.

Vegas has Theodore, Pietro, Martinez, Hague and Coughlan who all have the ability to be good on the PP. Vegas can't set up most games and struggle moving the puck in the O zone. Their issues are not caused by a lack of players walking the blue line.
