Chicago could have claimed Kurtis Gabriel off waivers back in October for free.

Instead, they traded Chad Krys for him.

Krys didn’t have a path to the NHL with the hawks and I don’t think he does with the leafs either. Gabriel can at least play a few games for the hawks.

Krys wasnt doing much and seems his development stalled. Gabriel is a fighter and after the Khaira hit seems like no one standing up for their teammates besides Stillman. Maybe he gets in a few games for the hawks but wont be a game changer. Krys might find it with the leafs and has some upside so I'm saying Leafs win this one.

Marlies have no defenseman. Hawks might need a guy to beat the **** out of Jacob Trouba (former Jet?!?!?).

Krys was on the Ice Hogs bottom pair or quite frankly a healthy scratch for most of this year. I honestly think he was about to be demoted to the ECHL so I could see him being frustrated and wanting to get out. I'm happy Kyle Davidson found a home for him. I truly had high hopes for him, but it just wasn't working out.

Dpairs last Ice Hogs Game and that's considering Regula and Galvas hurt too.

I think he'll be on the Marlies just to fill space - from what little I've learned from him in the past 20 minutes, Hawks fans haven't expressed great things about his development. I'd imagine he'll be in Newfoundland eventually.

I really liked his game at BU. Thought he was really good at driving play. The Ice Hogs even tried him at wing for a bit, but it is what it is. I hope the Marlies give him a shot.

More of an AHL trade than anything else for the Leafs. Gabriel really didn't have a shot at the Leafs lineup, and considering we got Clifford this isn't surprising. If Krys works out, great. If not, no loss. I'm saying Toronto won this because we somehow got something back for Gabriel, but I think Chicago makes out pretty well here.

I think he'll have a bit of time to show what he's capable of.

Not sure what Chicago will do with Gabriel. He's a tough guy but he skates like someone walking through deep snow.
