Honestly if the NHL teams are not allowed to go to the Olympics let the AHL teams go.

Choose the best AHL players and there yah go. Gives prospects some extra development and gives some AHL guys a boost for their goal of making the NHL as impressing on a global stage is a good way to get noticed.

I think the best thing would just be to have the hockey part of the Olympics in Canada or USA personally but that isn't happening.

Hasn't been mentioned yet, but Hockey Canada is contemplating not going to the Spengler Cup. Not earth-shattering news but worth a mention.

Well obviously, Zach Fucale has an NHL contract now so they don’t have a goalie to send 😂😂😂

Devon Levi was always the superior option tbh. Dubnyk was available too.

Do they take college guys for the Spengler? I always thought it was just a random assortment of whoever was in Europe at the time, plus Fucale in net every year for some reason lol

As far as I'm aware they can take anyone that doesn't have an NHL deal.

Can you remind me what the Sprengler cup is? I forgot what it is.

As per Wiki/etc.:
The Spengler Cup is an annual invitational ice hockey tournament held/hosted in Davos, Switzerland. First held in 1923, the Spengler Cup is often cited as the oldest invitational ice hockey tournament in the world.

Games are played from December 26 to 31 and all games are held at Vaillant Arena. Originally devised by Dr. Carl Spengler as a means to promote teams from German-speaking Europe, who might have suffered ostracism in the aftermath of World War I. Eventually, the tournament grew well beyond expectations. Many of Europe's most prestigious clubs and national programs have appeared, including Soviet, Swedish, Czechoslovak and German powerhouses.

Among non-European organizations, Team Canada, Team USA, nationally ranked NCAA schools, reigning AHL Calder Cup and Ontario Hockey Association champions, and even Team Japan (in 1971 as hosts of the upcoming Sapporo Winter Olympics) have traveled to Davos through the years....

It's a bucket list TO DO & fan-attend on my beer league old-timers...

Hopefully they do a World Cup of Hockey over the summer to make up for it

Ya, I would understand this decision (no sense going into a communist nation that could keep you there 5 weeks), but I still really, REALLY want to see an international tournament. A World cup of hockey in the summer would be great.

A cool idea I was thinking about is a weekly round up post on CapFriendly, or bi-weekly. 5-10 users combine to make up a regular forum post, kind of like an article or something like that. About teams around the league, players, injuries, rumours, reports, transactions, drafted prospects, undrafted prospects, draft eligible prospects, world juniors, u-18s, other leagues, stuff like that

Don’t think it’s been posted yet but Detroit’s games postponed until after Christmas, joins an ever growing list that should now be around 15 teams that don’t play until after Christmas

Imo shut down the league until after the break, a few teams already are. It’s better than icing these Frankenstein teams. Go on an extended holiday break, right now every day they play more, more guys are enetering protocol. They either need to just not care about covid, or shut down, latter being smarter. If they shut down, let everyone recover, slow the spread in the league, and start up mid January with <10 players in protocol

Steve Yzerman is the latest in the league to voice annoyance with covid protocols. Along with Connor hellebuyck and others.

I really do feel for these guys, the restrictions on their lives are a lot worse than most of us. I can't believe all the hoops theyre having to jump through to do their job, im sure the mental toll, as hellebuyck said, is super difficult. As a society, we need stability, and normalcy, however this may look.

The joy that is christmas has been sucked right out becuase of omicron, and i think i can speak for the whole world when I say we need covid to go f off. For everyones sake, fans, players, people who dont watch sports, lets hope this goes away soon, however it may look, and lets get back to normal ASAP. Ik its off topic, but i felt like with over 100 players in protocol, its just annoying at this point.

This is a nightmare for everything, more than half the league isn’t playing, many teams are decimated by Covid, NHL has to reschedule and plan everything, fantasy hockey is a wait and see

Sick of COVID talk

Pavel Buchnevich has 75 pts (31g-44a) in his last 82 regular season games. He has 29 points in 29 games.
One of my favourite lines

Great trade Chris
