2017-2018 team with Giordano traded

Description
Giordano is a great leader, great individual, and a great player. But he is getting up there in age, and I think after a little retool Dallas would make the playoffs, and Giordano, Lindell, and Klingberg is a very good top 6. They don't lose too many good pieces, and I think Calgary can easily move on from Giordano with their roster if they can attract some attractive pieces like Oshie, and Kulikov (He'd still be an excellent bottom pairing Dman). I think they should avoid signing Brian Elliott, and go after another goalie on the market. My hopes is Phillip Grubauer, who I think is overshadowed by Holtby. From the games I've watched, he was excellent and played a big role in non-high scoring wins. He is ready for starting material in my opinion and he is still young.

Mason is going to want more than that. Oshie has 30 goals this season he's getting more than a 250K raise. Think 7-7.5 per.

Any team that pays him that much is an idiot. If Oshie is realistic and realizes this is a career contract year a 30mill 5 year contract is smart. He may make a little more than that, but not that much more unless the team is an idiot.

I'll be honest Mason would most likely want more than that, but Mason is having a very poor season and there are so many goalies on the market.

There are plenty of stupid teams out there that'd pay a lot for Oshie. Top line RW's aren't easy to find, there will be a bidding war i'm sure. Mason is having a poor season with one of the worst defensive structured teams in the league. He's got a pretty good excuse for playing bad in my opinion. Philly sucks.

Can't see the Flames moving on from Gio, he may be 32 but he's still their best all-round Dman and the organization from top to bottom continues to rave about him on and off the ice.

If they did though, my hope would be that they'd replace him via free agency with Karl Alzner otherwise the top 4 is severely weakened.

          Alzner - Hamilton
          Brodie - Stone

Is still a very formidable top 4.

I also like the idea of going after Grubauer.

I agree the top 4 is weak, but our overall defense is still good in my opinion.

Still Mason overall has not played well and his last few seasons were inflated stats where he was playing behind a great team in 2013-2014, a no pressure situation in 2014-2015, and he only had a hot streak to lead the team to the playoffs in 2015-2016, with a terrible outing when he got there. I think a 2.7 mill 1b type of deal for 2 years is reasonable. If he performs well then he has another big pay day.

I don't think the Stars would do the Giordano deal anyways, huge cap hit for an aging player. No use trading their best D prospect and future top 6 forward for him. They'd rather sign Alzner

I think Oshie will push 7 mil. He is the only UFA RW that is worth a multi-year deal. Someone will overpay.
