Next years Wings

Created by: Stevierebz
Team: 2022-23 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 12, 2021
Published: Dec. 12, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
2021/22 deadline: Fabbri traded, Gagne traded, Stetcher traded.
Missed playoffs but picked somewhere between 6/14. Picked Brad Lambert (realistically think he’ll be in that range)

Off-season PT 2: resign Leddy and Zadina to a bridge
Bring in any FA back up goalie, neither Bednar or Cossa are ready for NHL and developmentally, they’ll want them getting meaningful min in the AHL before sitting bench behind Ned.

The only real FA signing is Copp, whom I think is a very realistic signing for Det because he’s a local kid and Det still lacks C depth. (Please critique the term and $$, I’m not sure what he’ll realistically get)

Edvinsson will sign but I think the y want a full year in GR before big min, so that’s the biggest question mark next year. I don’t think any of the top 4 quality d-men will want to sign in Det so please interject scenarios that might work.

I like it.

As for defense, I agree that Edvinsson is probably at least another year away. I could see someone like McNabb being a good option on a 2-3 year deal. When Edvinsson is ready he could slide down to the 3rd pair nicely. I don’t think it’s a stretch for a guy like that to sign with DET.

That left side defense will cause major problems. Neither Leddy nor Edvinsson play PK and Oesterle isn't good at it.

You need to sign a shutdown defender and make Oesterle the 7th D and let Edvinsson start in Grand Rapids in favour of Johansson who is a more mature defender that handles defensive situations better.

That's the obvious one. Another option is to trade for someone like Marcus Pettersson. Then there's the situation in Vegas with their cap when Eichel comes back that might be exploited.

Loads of teams will have problems becoming cap compliant this coming offseason. It could be a valid strategy to trade Leddy at the deadline and rely on other teams misfortunes to fill the needed spots.

Oh, and Wallinder needs another year in Sweden before he's brought over. Signing him is fine but let him develop another year before sending him to the AHL. There are no roster spots open anyway.
