Why would you just bury Monahan? If CGY somehow gets Hertl, I think a DeBrusk for Monahan swap could make some sense for both teams (+whatever else is needed on either side, or retention).

Far from a massive overpay. Hertl is an established top center in the NHL, getting him for a prospect and a late first shouldn’t be considered an overpay by any stretch.

I think if SJ keeps sniffing around the wild card they keep Hertl but they'd would certainly take that if not. It might even be tempting if the Sharks do stay in the playoff hunt.

Everyone always references this trade, even though it is a huge underpay. How about we reference an overpayment then too? Like 14th overall in 2021, a 2023 2nd and an nhl defenseman for Ristolainen. It will be somewhere in between those two

I never said it wasnt an underpay for Stone, in reality the return is probably closer to Duchene to Columbus. None of those trades however warranted an NHL ready prospect tearing up the AHL as a rookie. There is a major difference between a few scratch tickets and someone who has developed into a top prospect
