Matt, I saw in the BOG thread that there might be a 2nd version of this game in September. Is that just like everything updated? So everyone's on the same cap hit (some teams are at 76M, while others are at 73M), and everyone understands the rules better? Some people just look at their teams and not around the "league", so I feel like we should make sure every GM knows how to maneuver the forums and knows how to catch up on the "news". And current GM's would get to keep their teams, right? Because I love this game and it's just really fun to me.
Also, I like your idea on the free agents thing, along with rico's. How would it work though? This might be too much, but maybe make a poll on the big name free agents, and have everyone vote on it? Like, people vote on his term and how much the contract is worth? I'm just spitballing. I really want the teams with a player's rights to be able to get the last say on it though, and have a chance to match it. RFA's should be treated like they can't be offered anything from other teams as long as the team with the RFA rights gets people to agree on the contract, and UFA's should be treated like RFA's in real life, so that the "home team" gets last say. I feel like that's the best way to do free agency since the players in this game don't have feelings and we don't know their mindset like "Oh I just want to stay in this place because I like it" or "I just want money". That's my 2 cents

Yeah so to address the GM game 2.0 part, it would essentially be an upgraded version of this game. We'd ensure that everything is in place before the game starts so that there's no confusion on rules and such as there was in this game. And yes everything would be much more uniform. GMs who want to play v2 should get to keep their teams, although any GMs who want to change teams are welcome to ask if others would be interested in changing teams.

I'd like to see a more "SIM" version at some point myself.
- Trade approval process
- Trade restrictions (Limited number of trades per team)
- Asset restrictions (Min/Max draft picks, players under contract, etc.)
- Transaction restrictions/approval (Retention, buyouts, buried contracts, etc.)
- I'd also like a more mature environment and the ability to have hockey discussion/debates without everyone losing their minds, but that would require exclusivity. I'd like to see the ability to have multiple "leagues" running simultaneously, and the tools being available to support that, like each league having their own set of rosters and being able to swap assets between those rosters and have it reflected on both teams.
The goal being to have a more realistic game where big names being moved is the exception rather than the rule and teams are still recognizable as the one they started the season with.
And for free agency, I think if we can find a way to merge my idea and ricos that'd be best. If we vote on the value of the free agents, that takes the free market fun part out of it a little bit, since people will probably be less likely to make dumb offers. Although I may be misreading what you said about your free agency proposal, as I'm out running around and a I'm a little distracted right now
And I agree with everything Rico said except a number of trades restriction. if we restrict the number of trades a team can make that would probably constrict the market I think.

All I did was put something together that takes the years out of the bidding process and converts them into a "player's demands", then teams decide whether they are willing to meet those demands or drop out. If the player's "demands" are too high, he goes back into the UFA pool and tries again and perhaps lowers his demands the second time around.

To tell the truth i actually wasn't sure if we would keep our teams. This is just my opinion but i think we should let the new people come in and play if they want to and let people change teams. We should probably have a poll on it i think.
If my two economic history term papers have taught me anything, free market and capitalism are the wave.
I would prefer that we didn't "vote" on the value of FAs. Just let whatever ppl want to offer them offer them. we don't "vote" on trades, so why should we control UFAs but not trades?

Problem is that without it we would end up with the same thing we have here, players never stop moving. If there were multiple leagues however, there could be multiple types of leagues.

I don't see where the voting aspect is coming from?
you imply that there is a problem w/ ppl moving. the best way to improve one's team isnt by restricting the amounts of transactions that occur, that would be counter-intuitive. you should be allowed to trade as frequently or as less as you want.
Just to double check, theres absolutely no way I can get the player I want if Im not live for the pick?
correct. unless you notify a BOG member timely with who you want to have picked in your allotted time slot, or by posting your preference list in your team's description, however the ladder is dangerous has BOGs may not be sweeping for preference lists.
I believe that after the 3rd round?, the BOG will be doing BPA regardless of team descriptions.

Thats what I mean by the 3rd round being the cutoff. I have 2 picks in the 4th round that I'm not sure I'll be able to make in a 1 hour period and a few players I still want. Just wanted to see if theres anyway I could still get at least one of these players on my list.

That's where having an assistant could be handy. The time between picks gets really short and I don't think any BOG are going to make it for all 31 picks in each round, so the GM's have to somewhat self-process. The only way to do that is to have the GM who's turn it is, skip a number of top ranked players equal to the number of GM's before him that missed their turn. So if it's the turn after yours and no BOG has been present to update, that GM is able to determine who your pick will be and not select that player, then the BOG will fill it in later.
#1 - Misses his turn - BPA is reserved
#2 - Selects - Skips the BPA
#3 - Misses his turn - BPA 2 is reserved
#4 - Selects - Skips BPA 1 and BPA 2
-- Bog updates and assigns BPA 1 & 2
#5 - Selects as normal
#6 - Misses his turn - BPA is reserved
#7 - Selects - Skips BPA
#8 - Misses his turn - BPA 2 is reserved
#9 - Misses his turn - BPA 3 is reserved
#10 - Selects - Skips BPA 1, 2, & 3
-- BOG updates and assigns BPA 1, 2, & 3
#11 - Selects as normal

I see what you're saying. I may set up my own BPA list and see if the team picking after me can make mine and his pick at the same time
