OK. Here's a game that people can play if they want where people can pretend to be the GM of a team, and we can make trades and stuff as if it's the offseason (no vegas expansion trades until we get closer to the expansion draft, though you may talk about those trades). You may ask for a team, and i will give you that team if it isn't already taken. My favourite teams are the Rangers and Islanders tied, so i'll be the Islanders. Each person may only be the GM of one team.
Here is the list of GMs (i will update it when someone claims a team):

Basically what I mean is that if you assign Oshie a 7 year deal because he's the #1 Forward and only 30 it may scare off some people because they don't want to pay 37 year old Oshie 6+ million.

if you always air on the shorter side I think it will work, because people will be like "atleast I don't have to pay him forever." Like Oshie and Shattenkirk for 6 years then Hanzal, Bonino, Alzner and whoever else at 5 years, I think that would lead to a lot of bids and interaction which would be fun.

Wait, so maybe we could say that if it's one of the top UFAs, we could maybe make the length being until they're a certain age, but it might not work. Maybe we could make it so that 30 year olds are signed for 6 years if they seem like a 6 year kind of player (Hanzal, Oshie, and other 30 year olds that could get 6 years). Not sure though.

I believe we should make the minimum raise 250k for bidding on a ufa. I really don't want to see people be like "i'll pay 5Million" and then have someone say "I;ll give him 5.005 Million" that'd be a raise of 5 thousand but it'd be annoying to just see all those bids. I strongly feel 250k should be the absolute minimum you can bid when going for a UFA.

Yeah, i agree totally, because if someone offers a player 5mil a year, i don't think we should have someone saying 5100000. I totally agree. Someone would have to offer at least 5.25mil a year if they want the player (if the offer before that was 5mil a year).

We could also do a draft lottery and an entry draft, unless it's too complicated.

Well, with the draft lottery i think we should probably wait for the real one. But yeah, we could do an entry draft. Maybe not all 7 rounds though as it would take a while and isn't something really important that we do. But we could do 7 rounds if you guys want to.

Thats a good rule of thumb. I think we should try to define as many rules as we can before a ton of people join because then it will be like the saying "there's too many voices in the room" We need to hammer this out while we can talk clearly to each other and not have like 10 different people posting different things and then no ones on the same page and we're all typing at the same time.

Yes, this rule is official as of just now. That is how we will do free agent day. But we still need to figure out how to decide how many years a player gets.

My vote is 3 rounds and we do it way before the actual draft. That way we don't get distracted or copy what actually happens. The drafts June something so if we hold our draft in May we could really focus on it and do our thing. I think the rule should be that you have 2 hours to log in and make your pick and you post in the section which player has to be on at what time to make their selection. So they have to log in at a certain time, or they can give you a list of players they would like to draft at that spot from #1 the first player they'd like to #10 the last player they'd take or whatever, so you can just go 1-10 selecting the highest player available. If all the players are taken on the list they give you then you just have to make the pick for them.

But then how do we decide who has each later pick?

That's how we did it in football. Hopefully they let us do personal messages by then so we can just message you our list of guys we'd like if we're not on to make the pick.

Just a thought, each year is the value of one million dollars. Say Dallas offers Oshie 6 years, 6 million per. Carolina doesn't want to give six years, so they offer 5 years, 7 million per. Well, actually, they couldn't do that because these deals would be "equivalent". So they would have to offer 5 years, 7.25 million. That might be too confusing.

We go by round of elimination from the playoffs + Record. So if Boston squeaks in and they have the lowest points of playoff teams and lose in the first round they have the best pick. But if they make the second round and then they lose all the teams eliminated in the first round pick ahead of Boston.

I don't think there's a problem with doing the draft sometime between the end of the Stanley Cup Finals and the actual entry draft, just agree that we shouldn't do it after the actual draft.

Yeah, you're right.

I think rangersandislesfan's right that he should just make the number of years a player can sign for and then players can bid. For instance he can say "Oshie can sign for either 6 or 7 years" and we take the higher total value as the winner. Like 6.5Million over 7 years is better than 7 Million over 6 years.

I believe we should make the minimum raise 250k for bidding on a ufa. Also, i think we should make all UFA signings on UFA day made up up quarter-millions.
Example:

I don't think we want anyone offering players 4.15mil a year to start, because if someone only wants to offer a little bit higher, they might go with 4.4mil a year, and it would get really confusing. But i think we should be allowed to sign players to amounts made up of 25thousands. So we could sign players for 650K, 675K, 700K, 725K, 750K, etc, until we get to 1mil, when we would need to go 1.25mil, 1.5mil, 1.75mil, 2mil, 2.25mil, etc. Because it would get really confusing if someone tried to offer 1025000 a year, or anything like that.

So Washington would get the 31st pick, CBJ 30th, etc. Yeah, i guess that sounds good. And i mean if WSH finishes 1st, CBJ finishes 2nd, etc. Is that what you're saying?

Yeah thats what i said except i wasn't taking into account the players under 1Million. Good job on that, i mean some guys you should get to bid a small amount on because they are on the end of your roster.
