If Wheeler is on LTIR for the rest of the regular season

Created by: njlaforte
Team: 2021-22 Winnipeg Jets
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 13, 2021
Published: Dec. 13, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
If Wheeler is out till the end of the regular season then the Jets will have enough cap space to bring in a top 6 forward. I would play the new forward with KC and PLD and have Copp Scheif and Ehlers on the other line. Out of the ones that I have on the list I would like Rakell or Forsberg. If Wheeler does come back for the playoffs, I would put him on the third line probably with Stastny and Lowry.

Kessel is a no go for me… doesn’t really fit with Connor and PLDs play style
          Rakell could be interesting
I’m, personally, not overly interested in Forsberg or Hertl
          I’d love Boeser from VAN
I also think Puljujarvi from EDM would be a great fit on PLDs right side, but I can’t see the Oilers moving him

Most interesting choice is Rakell. Contract could be 4,000,000 for 4 years.
Hertl could also be interesting, Forsberg and Kessel is not happening.

With how VAN and EDM are playing lately, it’s unlikely Boeser or Puljujarvi would be available, so I think Rakell is the optimal choice, assuming Anaheim is willing to let him go.
I also want us to get Appleton back from Seattle

Rakell is most likely going to cost a 1st and a prospect

          That’s a tad high… but I guess it would depend on a few factors…
          1) What prospect
          2) Rakell’s next contract ask
          3) Chances if him extending in Winnipeg

Kessell is the only one who will be available, all those other teams will likely be in the playoff race so probably won't be traded, aldo won't be surprised if all those guys are extended by their respective teams.

Kessell and Wheeler are buddies, maybe he'd come to Winnipeg for a playoff run, the Jets really need to get their **** together if they want to make the playoffs though.

I don’t have a clue about any of WPG’s prospects honestly so couldn’t help with who there

With the options listed above Kessel and Rakell would be the 2 I would like to see and can see coming to Winnipeg in a deal. I have been saying the Jets should trade for Rakell since last year. Ducks seem to be going through a rebuild and the kids they have right now are really showing to be really good. Rakell being on the last year of his deal it wouldn't take a 1st and prospect Columbus' 3rd round pick this year and Logan Stanley.

With Kessel, he also has 1 year left on his deal and Arizona most definitely would retain some salary. 2023 3rd round pick (if Winnipeg makes the playoffs it moves to a 2nd round pick), Kristian Vesalainen, Nelson Nogier. I think Kessel would fit really nice on a line with PLD and Connor. Kessel is still one of the better passers in the game and him feeding Connor would be deadly.

The player I want Winnipeg to go after if Wheeler is on LTIR is Brock Boeser. a line of Ehlers, Scheif and Boeser might just be what the doctor ordered for Scheif to get going again. At the beginning of this year Scheif was a lock to make the Olympic team, now he has played himself off that team in my opinion. Putting guys with speed and skill with Scheif might rejuvenate him.

Agree that Boeser is the top choice and would be a perfect fit on the Jets, but I think he’d be great with Conner and PLD.
Copp, Scheif, and Ehlers is a good line and the time Scheif usually starts to crap out is when PoMo reverts to his CSW line stupidity.

Rakell could be a good fit and affordable, but I wouldn’t move Stanley at this point. He brings some needed energy and has shown he can get the team fired up.

Personally, I have less than zero interest in Kessel.

I agree with what you're saying. I only put Conner, PLD with Kessel if I were to trade for Kessel. But yeah Boeser with Connor and PLD would be very fun to watch for us Jets fans. I first want to say that I hope Wheeler's injury doesn't ruin his lifestyle, I just want it to ruin his ability to play hockey. lol. I am so fed up with PoMo putting an aging declining player out there all the time. He was 2nd in forwards in TOI and he hadn't scored a goal. Most coaches would demote him to 3rd line or 4th line to try and get their game back. But not PoMo keeps sending him out there. I want PoMo to see what he has in the rest of his team without being blinded by Wheeler. I think Scheif picks up his game because he is playing with players that have speed and skill and not declining.

Rakell would be affordable and a great fit I agree. But if I had to choose between Rakell and Stanley, HANDS DOWN RAKELL!!! I want Heinola to be able to play NHL minutes. we are going to do the same thing to Heinola as we did with Niku. Only with Heinola he actually has alot of skill. Also if you need a 20 year old who can hardly skate with the NHL players and playing sheltered minutes so that teams don't expose how poor defensively he is, to fire a team up then there are more problems on this team than we know.

Being a former Pittsburgh Penguins fan I love Phil Kessel. Before Pittsburgh I thought he was lazy and not really good for anything besides his wrist shot. But he brings alot more to a team than that. He has great vision and can make almost any pass. Yes he isn't the fastest out there but he gives it 100% mostly every shift. I think he would be a good fit with this team. Like I said in my other post, him and Connor would be alot of fun to watch. just like when Kessel and Malkin played together.
