Honestly while he's the best player in the world, its just not worth it to acquire him. You'd have to give up A LOT in assets to acquire him and then he's going to take 15% of your cap space.

No player is worth 15% of the cap on a roster on 20 players not even McDavid, there’s a reason there hasn’t been a team to win the Stanley cup with a player making over 10 million, Chicago signed Kane and Toews to their 10m+ and fell apart, kopitar and doughty signed 10m the kings fell apart, they aren’t able to have the depth to win a cup with 2 guys making that much money because there’s not enough money for the 18 other players on the roster .Tampa is lucky they have no state income tax players will automatically take less money that’s why they were able to keep their team mostly intact after 2 cups in a row even thou they still lost a lot of players this year. McDavid will play out his contract and sign for a lower cap hit to win a cup on a team that is stacked in 5 years if he keeps signing for a cap hit of 15% or even higher gonna be pretty tough to win.

IMO NYR make the most sense to me
They have Lefreniere and Kakko who are both adjusting slowly
They might be willing to move on from one of them in a package for Mcdavid.
NYR has the Goaltending depth to fix EDM problems long term with Georgiev


NYR has depth Prospects to make the deal work without taking them out of a playoff spot or screwing them long term.
Getting a Mcdavid just puts them on another level like TBL has been on for the past few years

NYR may not have the Establish talent to pull it off
But they do have pieces over all that would fix most of EDM holes leaving Drisatl in a strong position with RNH behind him @ 2nd C

That’s true the panarin trade was terrible but once you get a couple contracts like that you can never get the depth you need, you need 4 solid lines and 6 solid d men to win a cup just look at Toronto 1st round bounce every round with 3 guys making over 10 mil it’s just proven Tim and time again having almost 30% of your cap tied up in 2 or 3 players never translates to the playoffs.

Yeah, it was changed. It was originally two 1sts for MAF, no retention.

I know MAF has looked better after the coaching change, but im hard pressed to say he’s worth more than a 2nd/3rd, albeit that’s before accounting for Kosk or whatever would go back to CHI.
