Boxing Day Sale

Created by: Makeeeeebo
Team: 2021-22 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 14, 2021
Published: Dec. 14, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Boston trade: Kulak and Perr will definitely help Boston in a playoff push. That being said, I don't really know Debrusk's trade value so maybe a 2nd round might be better or something.

Colarado: Lehk and Armia would fit into the Avs' system perfectly. I like Barron and Helm helps balance the books.

Calgary: Sutter would love Gally and the Habs would like a prospect like Emil. Monohan makes the cap work for now and Gally at 5mil is very solid. Wideman is nice depth on D for the playoffs.

Pitts: Toffoli is not only a huge upgrade on Zucker but is also cheaper. It's a lot to give up for Pittsburgh but the trade is both a camp dump and a way to add top-6 scoring.

Carolina: Skjei is not good so it's a good cap dump. The salary between Andy and Skjei is similar. Carolina adds a top-9 power forward. Niku is good Finnish depth. Suzuki brothers united.

WPG: Dvorak is an upgrade over Lowry. Edmundson is a big help on D and he's from Manitoba. Nathan is a cap dump.

Edmonton: Big trade but Chiarot is expected to get a first and while I don't think he's worth that much, GMs clearly do. Allen is an upgrade over Koskinen at a much cheaper price. Turris cap is dumped and he's replaced by the cheaper Paquette. Pezz is depth grit. Benson is still pointless and is not getting a lot of minutes, change of scenery hopefully helps. Jake allen is supposed to be 50% retained, too lazy to fix it.

You never know now that Gorton is there. He has connections with Boston so it's a possibility.

Obviously don't know about the 3 retention rule. Also Sutter has already coached Toffoli and they know each other already. Sutter would probably rather have Toffoli

Not all these trades have to happen. Just a list of all the possible trades that could.

See my other comment. I wouldn't expect all these trades to go through as is. Just listing off some possibilities.

Geoff Molson would loose his marbles of one of the first deals of the Gortonnregime was with Carolina.

DeBrusk becomes a Hab first before a Canes deal happens.

you are not getting Barron from the avs.

You can only retain 3 salaries at any given time, so 90% of your trades are further out to lunch in terms of value

True squinty smile
But I think Molson is putting complete faith in Gorton and not interfering.

What’s with Habs fans and offering terrible deals to the Avs? Doubt Winnipeg or Carolina do that either

I think Lehk really suits the Avs. Who or what do you think they'd be comfortable trading?

And yeah, I know about retention. Imagine that each trade is done in a vacuum. This is just a list of possible trades. I don't expect all of them to happen as is.

Oooooo. I think he does there. That relationship is 100% the Hatfield's vs the McCoy's.

that is ridiculous. the canadiens are going to rebuild and the Bruins are trying to win the Cup. They're at opposite ends of the standings and are of no threat to eachother. It's impossible for them to make a deal because of a rivalry that hasn't had a spark in it for 10 years?

a draft pick for him, they arent trading a top prospect for a defense first 3rd line winger. And no need for Armia, hes a lesser version of Nichushkin who the avs need cap space to extend and keep

if the fans are impacting a management team's ability to do their jobs, then there is a serious issue. I don't see any reason why a deal like this can't happen. They've played one game against eachother in the past two seasons for crying out loud

MTL fans are so precious. Only they would think two bottom 6 guys get a top D prospect. I’ll be honest this is for fun, at least make trades that the other team would consider. Nobody trades a top of the food chain defensive prospect for 2 bottom 6 forwards that is freaking stupid. You could MAYBE convince a team for a 2nd rd pick and a throw away contract to balance the cap, but that is straight awful not a GM in the league does that trade if they are COL.

You clearly have never actually watched Skjei play. He is NOT a cap dump by any means, so you can scratch that narrative. Offensively, he may not be that good, I agree, but defensively he is really good. When Slavin was out during the Nashville series, Skjei stepped his game up and ate the minutes that Slavin would have eaten. Canes probably would have lost the Nashville series if we didn’t have Skjei. Now if we are talking about bad players, you can put that label on J. Anderson. He has not lived up to his contract at all, whereas Skjei has lived up to expectations and surpassed them.

And what’s funny about this is that you call him bad and then put him on your top pairing. Players aren’t going to be on top lines/pairings if they are “bad”. This post is nothing but a troll.

And if you are wanting that package from Carolina, you better be offering Romanov and Caufield, plus more.

I wouldn't necessarily say that Skjei isn't a cap dump.
Also, I'm not saying Anderson has lived up to his contract either. I don't think it's a good contract at all. But, GMs tend to pay premiums for power forwards.

Also, I put him on the top line because it felt weird putting 5mil on the 3rd pairing. Like his competition for that spot is Clague and Beaulieu, I wouldn't say that it's that much of a compliment.

Yeah, I probably got a bit cocky asking for Suzuki and a 1st but like I'm not an actual GM, you don't have to get so rattled. I'm not trying to troll, I'm just jotting down ideas. squinty smile

The point of this trade was that I really want Lehk in Colorado. You can swap Barron for a less valuable prospect and that's fine with me. I'd gladly take on a bad contract but I don't think Colorado really has any bad contracts. Erik Johnson is expensive but he's been with Colorado for so long and he's been solid this season so even then it's not a terrible contract.

My god, you guys get so riled up, it's Armchair GM. squinty smile
