Sabres prefer just getting a 2nd.

That is too much for chychrun in my opinion. Better off resigning nurse who is the easily the better defensemen.

Yandle was traded for a 1st, 2nd, and Duclair (plus Moore).
The 1st and 2nd were traded to Detroit to move up and select Chychrun.
Obviously Duclair didn't work out quite as expected, but he had decent value at the time.

Does Arizona really want more picks in this draft? They have enough that they are bound to hit on a couple and there's only so much high level talent that comes out of each draft.
I'd say your best offensive prospect and a 1st should be sufficient, if you include a non-cap dump player under contract. No telling how silly an offer from another team may get however, so walk away if it goes beyond that.

sabres wouldn't want Barrie, they would rather get picks or prospects. That Kessel trade is pretty good. You don't want that Price contract that will become brutal in a few years and especially giving up Nurse that

Nurse already has an extension in place.

Arizona can't retain on Chychrun and they definitely won't retain on his nice contract even if they could. I say that cause you used their last retention slot on Kessel.

I feel you just went too far with they price trade. Keep nurse, he's a stud. A 1-2 nurse Chychrun would be unreal.

You Better run that Barrie trade past your fellow Oilers fans - I'm sick of using trades like this and then having to hear OMG don't you know Barrie is an offensive super-star you'd have to throw in a 1st and a top prospect to get Barrie.

Habs are not taking on the Nurse contract. It's worse than the Price contract.

Here is another trades with Buffalo from apparent Oiler ACGM trading Barrie:
https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/537426
EDM gets Pysyk, Mark + Eakin, Cody and 2022 5th round pick (NJD)
BUF gets Barrie, Tyson + Lavoie, Raphael and 2023 3rd round pick (EDM)
Many Edmonton fans also think he is a huge defensive liability, Buffalo could use a RHD next year.
I would do the one on this post for Miller then try to resign Pysyk.
Buffalo would then have four options for RHD next year with Jokiharju and Laaksonen.

Arizona considers Chychrun a cornerstone, and he's on a great contract.

It's one thing if "your best offensive prospect and a 1st" is all that you would give up as a GM, but Arizona is only going to deal him if they're blown away by multiple firsts and 1-2 excellent prospects.

You forgot to include a roster player, which would be a middle 6F or 4th/5th D in Arizona, in all likelihood. That's where there's room to negotiate, which NHL player comes back.
I would recommend not going beyond that, yes, but I'm well aware some team probably will. Doesn't mean you shouldn't take your shot.

My bad…completely forgot about that. Point still stands, the oilers are better off keeping him
