Mason is a better option than Neuvirth, and he has a possibility to be taken in the Expansion Draft, since the Flyers might protect Stolarz. You also overpaid Stolarz, he isnt going to get over a mil year after playing less than 5 games this year.

I understand what your saying but we need to sign at least one veteran D man, and right now I think its MDZ because hes not a bad 2nd or 3rd D pairing man and has experience in Hakstols system. Plus this season was a rough one for him because of injuries. The way Hexy thinks he might sign more than one Dman because he doesn't want to rush the prospects. Other options in abot the same teir as MDZ are Stone, Gormley,Kulikov,Yannick Weber, and possibly Jared Cowen. If Hexy doesnt sign one of these middle age capable NHL Dmen then he would have to go older which doesnt really fit his philosophy to well unless the player signs a cheap maximum of two year deal.

I agree that Mason would be the better option. However with Neuvrith being currently signed I think he stays and Mason goes, for the beginning of next season. As for the expansion draft if I were the Las Vegas Knights, in terms of goalies, I have to grab three but that won't be too hard. I can grab a starter caliber goalie, and two prospects and be able to sign a backup in free agency or an elite goalie if I can land Bishop. Given this assumption, a goalie quickly approaching 30 that hasn't proven to be much better than a 1-B goalie, and is inconsistent doesn't get taken, Neuvrith. I think it will be Fleury and a few prospects.

However, it was necessary to sign a goalie before the expansion draft to make sure Stolarz was not taken. That being said I probably did over pay Stolarz some but I'm assuming worst case his salary cap hit is that, a more realistic number is probably 800K to 950K.
