That’s a really bad trade for the isles. Perfetti would have to be included to get the isles to even listen

Likely that the OP missed the pulock extension. I’m sure there’s a way to find a happy medium in the trade. Something built around Heinola, 2 1sts. Because I feel like the islanders need help on D way more than they do at forward. But maybe that’s just an inaccurate assumption.

If the assumption is the isles need D, then they shouldn’t be trading their #1 defenseman lol.

The isles have two top pair D(pelech + Pulock) and Dobson whos well on his way to becoming one. They need an average two way D to play with Dobson , that’s about it.

Pulock is pretty much untouchable and because of that the Jets would need to blow away the isles with an offer, Perffetti would 100% need to be included

The guy the jets actually need in my opinion would be dobson and his prowess on the pp, they enough all around and enough taking care of the own end, but a gifted guy on pp would help a lot. What is isles path going forward, my idea is kind of a crazy scheifele/Dillon for a Dobson/barzal and shake both teams up to the core, obviously some adds to make it all work.

This season could be a blessing in disguise for the isles. The reason why they’ve struggled is because Trotz has been reluctant to hand the keys to the young guys and instead forcing vets in roles they can’t handle. Next season they can contend if they give bigger roles to younger players (sorokin, Wahlstrom , Dobson etc..)

Trading Barzal and Dobson for Schiefele+Dillon would run the isles into the ground. They get older and slower, definitely not what the isles would do.

So jets and isles basically in similar boats, and hopefully push to let the kids decide if they sink or swim.

2.5mil of retention for 9 years would require heinola AND perfetti. even without retention i wouldn’t move him unless one of those two was in the deal.

I’m curious about what Winnipeg fans think of Paul Maurice as a coach. Happy that he’s gone? How is he with the young players?

He’s an incredible coach if your team is bottom 10. He can take a team that’s heavily underperforming and move them into a top 10 position, but he’s not the guy to get you over the hump. That’s how I see it, he’s perfect for a team that’s either coming out of a rebuild or in a bit of a retool.

From what he said during his presser after resigning, it sounded a lot to me like he’s retiring. Talked a lot about how much he loved Winnipeg, the city, the organization. He spoke about how he kind of lost his passion for the game a bit which leads me to believe he’ll likely retire as a coach. Could see him hired into jets upper management for sure.

Everybody really liked him… it was just time, he was the 2nd longest coach hired in the NHL and his voice in the room just grown stale

I know a lot of Jets fans don’t think he’s good with young guys, but our development record for young players is really good… and that in huge part in cause of him

Give him a 24/26 year old nucleus and give him 5 years, and you will have some success, loyal as they come, possibly to a fault, had a 5 year plan and survived 8 years. Different city and the ability to add what is needed in free agency or a little help when needed and I think they may have hung a banner with him. Adjust to trading out some of the nucleus and bringing in some kids maybe a fault, but definitely a asset and some fond memories from his tenure.

Mediocre at best.
No ability to adapt on the fly.
Plays favourites.
Would rather play underperforming vets over hungry youth.
When unsure, falls back on certain lineups regardless of their success or failure.
