Ottawa is not giving away Connor Brown for a prospect that doesn't fill an urgent need, a 3rd round pick and a cap dump.

Try again.

Two of those deals are terrible overpays that they shouldn't consider, unless one of the four teams ahead of the Jets suffer some long term injuries to some key players they're likely not making the playoffs, they need to sell at the deadline and look at making a bigger trade in the summer, its probably time for Scheifele to go.

Yeah, NO WAY the jets offer anything close to that for Connor Brown.

In this post, Lowry is being dumped in order to come up with the cap space to acquire Connor Brown.

That's why I said he's a cap dump.

I’m not saying the value is bad for ottawa but we already have Brannstrom at LD and we don’t need another LD

WPG
Brown, Connor
OTT
Heinola, Ville
Lowry, Adam
2022 3rd round pick (CBJ)

That Lowry contract is bad. He had a bump in production in a contract year. How was he making $3MM on his last contract, and there it is, another contract year bump in production.

17/18 contract year - 45 games, 8G, 13A, 21 points - 0.47 ppg
20/21 contract year - 52 games, 10G, 14A, 24 points - 0.46 ppg
Rest of career - 392 games, 52G, 55A, 107 points - 0.27 ppg

Lowry is a dump, and for 5 seasons. It would cost more than Heinola and a 3rd to get rid of that contract, without even bringing Connor Brown into the conversation.

You’re seriously disrespecting Heinola. Neither teams make that trade

I like Heinola, but that's 5 seasons of Lowry. Ottawa can sign Nick Paul to a 4 year extension, get the same production, above average defence, great at faceoffs, and save about $8MM. Heinola isn't worth that to the Sens, who have Chabot and Sanderson already.

That’s why I said “neither teams make that trade” was just trying to point out that thinking it would take more than Heinola to dump Lowry is stupid

I wouldn’t be jumping at the opportunity the take on that Lowry contract. Between that and a 3rd, even with Heinola I’d be a little disappointed. Could get a deal fits better somewhere else.

Heinola is a nice prospect but Ottawa already passed on him once. Could’ve very easily taken him instead of Thomson.

The Sens are so deep at LD with what’s in the NHL and what’s coming with prospects that it wouldn’t make sense to target another LD. I’m not sure if he would get opportunities ahead of Chabot, Brannstrom, Sanderson and maybe Kleven too. No doubt in my mind he would hold a ton more weight in a deal with a team with less LD depth.

IT'S FIVE YEARS

Yes it takes more than Heinola to dump Lowry. If you don't like it, that's too bad, doesn't change the situation. You're stuck with Lowry.

Regardless of your opinions on Heinola, the Lowry deal should be enough to kill the deal in the first place. He's an extremely useful player but he's making like double what he's worth for 5 years. I think Ottawa can do better than Heinola and a 3rd without adding a boat anchor. It's probably fair to say they might not be offered a better prospect than Heinola, but I think there should be multiple offers of a 1st +, which is better suited for Ottawa anyway than a deal built around an LD prospect who would be a 3rd pair guy long term for Ottawa.

I don't think any of these trades make sense for the Jets. I think Chevy is going to stay pat this year and if they make it they make it, if not, sell a couple of pieces at the deadline, hire a coach in the summer and go again

What are your thoughts on moving Schfiele to RW instead? at 6.125 I don't see the Jets getting a better offensive player in a trade, but I'm beyond frustrated with his defensive game.

I'm very for that idea and especially with Stastny here(and Copp too to a lesser extent) as a center option it makes sense to put the defensively challenged center that plays like a winger anyway on the wing where his defensive responsibilities are less demanding.

Something like:

Connor-PLD-Svech
Ehlers-Stastny-Scheifele
Copp-Lowry-Toninato
Harkins-Gus-Vesalainen

Imo if Svech is out for a bit they should give Vesalainen a chance with KC and PLD instead of moving Copp there but they likely won't cause they like doing the same things over and over again and expecting different results in this organization, hopefully papa Lowry will be willing to try some different things but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

If Gus is out at all they should scan the waiver wire for a forward or maybe make a low cost trade like sending a 7th round pick for a 4C, that being said Wheeler is probably not out that long so should probably just shift Harkins to 4C and call up somebody from the Moose or play Beaulieu on the wing, can't imagine Gus could be all that hurt, that fall into the net looked harmless really, he can't be that fragile i hope.. lol

All trades are pretty awful for the Jets. Winnipeg has enough problems right now without making bad trades like these to compound their issues.

Current lines have vesalainen playing with PLD and KC at practice today. Looks like Lowry is willing to make some changes.

I agree that scheif at RW is smart, and agree with the rest of your comment.

Well thats a positive sign.

I've liked Vesalainen's play for the most part, the points just haven't come unfortunately, he makes some smart plays and is often looking to make a play to his linemate rather then taking a low chance pass or shot, think there's a player there maybe, ridiculous he hasn't been given a chance on the 2nd PP unit, would be great for all involved if he built some chemistry with KC and PLD and this trio works out.

This is stupid, 90% of the players have a down year right after signing a long term deal

Why trade a player at his lowest value?

It’s not even like we have someone to replace him

A lot of times I feel like the biggest Jets haters r their own fans… smh

People like to present the argument that players will play well in contract year and then suck, but don’t realize most players rebound after their 1st year with new deal.

We aren’t “stuck” with him when we’ll gladly keep him. Amazing locker room guy and can still contribute offensively. Wouldn’t give him away for free
