Can't retain on Gio, unfortunately. Expansion rules don't you to retain on a player that you're sending back to their original team for 1 full year (at which point Gio will be a UFA anyway).

Now ask yourself, what has Dreidger shown to value him at a 1st rounder?

It does appear that this year with the Kraken was an off year for his normal stats https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/59689/chris-driedger

I feel like his value on leaving Florida was a 1st, and Edmonton always overpays anyway.

why would sharks give up essentially 2 1sts for a middle 6 RW that’s 31? pass

Sharks aren’t adding, certainly not giving up the equivalent of 2 1sts for Jordan Eberle.

Sharks could easily get a player just as good for way cheaper like Reilly Smith. Josh Bailey would be free.

Don't see how Driedger is worth a first and a prospect who's stock has risen since draft day plus Oilers giving another pick to move Koskinen.

1st, 3rd, B prospect and a .902 goalie for a .892 goalie. I think the Oilers hold off and see what Smith brings on his return plus Skinner has been solid with a .922 currently.

So he had a small sample size if Florida, behind a stacked team.
Next he gets a pretty decent deal with term. He then fails to show much success, albeit behind a bad team.
The Oilers are far from a strong defensive team, so not much reason to think he’d return to his form in Florida. If his value leaving the panthers was a 1st, and since then he’s signed a larger contract and has poor numbers, still think the value holds? Really?

Also saying a team always overpays anyway is a pretty decent way to discredit your rational here

I think youre overvaluing Driedger and Eberle but undervaluing Giordano

Giordano with retention (unless its to CGY) could get a 1st+

Driedger maybe a 2nd or a 3rd + sweetener

Eberle could probably fetch a 1st + if theres significant retention but at a 5.5M cap hit im not sure there would be a big market for him

I think the Geo one is out anyway, someone above told me about a rule I didn't know that you can't retain and send back in year one. I'll just remove that one now.

Thats only if hes traded back to CGY, he could be traded to any other team with retention. SEA could get a pretty good haul for him imo

I like Eberle, but giving up Weisblatt on top of the first-round pick in return makes it a non-starter. Sharks pass.
