GM is fine. A coaching change seems more appropriate.

Fitz has made some good moves I would say trading for Graves and signing Hamilton

To be honest I think everyone other than Devils fans thought this is roughly where they'd be this year, and that isn't necessarily a bad thing. They're still an extreme young team who's lost a ton of Vets this season, is still integrating a ton of new pieces in the lineup, is having a ton of key roles occupied by U23 players, and still has a ton of cap space to work with.

They need to fire the coach and probably rework a couple of pieces, but I think they'll be fine long tern

I like the Vrana trade. It would be tough letting him go but getting Sharangovich and the first rounder back would be a pretty good return. Bahl is alright too, he could be a decent third pairing guy for us when the vets roll out. Still a tough choice though because of the fact we’re giving up a proven top 6 winger.

Wouldn’t really say Zacha or Foote move the needle for Laine, and there needs to be a 1st in there.

Ask would probably be something like a 1st and a high-end prospect - think Holtz and/or Mercer. And that’s if he doesn’t come with an extension. Would also be willing to talk Hischier, if he’s available.

I don't think this trade would be the right move for Detroit. Like yes we get a first and a couple decent young guys but it would set us back. I guess it would also depend where that pick lands. I would prefer to keep the two players and send mercer or some form of trade around him.

I don’t think NJ is going to move Mercer and that first is currently ~6th. I really like what I’m seeing from some of the top centers in the draft and think you should build from down the middle and backend. I think we’ve got the backend looking good so having a couple cracks at someone like Geekie/Savoie is enticing to me.

I don't disagree as long as that pick is top 10. Wingers are usually easier to come by. I just don't like giving up Vrana as I feel he could help Zadina develop.

Usually when the roster itself is good but the team isn't playing well you either want a new coaching system (meaning new coach) or a shakeup trade to wake the players up.

The point is they need to avoid another rebuild I would rather trade our lottery 1st round pick for a star than just get another talented draft pick which they don’t need more of. Fitz has not been a great Gm made a lot of moves that haven’t worked out and has not taken advantage of cap situations of other teams. He should have acquired more established talent on forward to play with Hughes. The excuse that they are a young team is null at this point because guys like Bratt, zacha, Hischier, wood, Severson, aren’t inexperienced anymore they are at the age where they are still young but they have enough experience to the point where they should be better. Of those players Bratt and wood are the only ones that are playing to their potential, Severson is overrated. Zacha was a terrible draft pick, and Hischier has not come close to the potential of a number 1 pick for a first overall pick he hasn’t shown much only that he is a decent middle 6 forward. He is also the captain and has been unable to get anything out of this team. Hamilton may be great offensively but defensively he has sucked and he is supposed to be a 2-way defenseman, he does Skate hard he looks like he doesn’t care that much especially when he messes up he is a big factor contributing to odd-man rushes against the devils because he is so lazy coming back that he will pinch and not get back. Tatar was a terrible signing. Fitz and most of the coaches need to go. They should have kept Shero. And if Fitz doesn’t go he needs to make some bold moves

The roster is good, but young.
Most nights, its a sloppy mess out there with glimpses of good things to come.

Mercer would not be the guy we trade. Nor would we give up Sharangovich.
If we are rebuilding, rebooting, re-whatever...it would be selling a couple vets, packing in the season, building again next year.
Detroit and New Jersey are unlikely to be trade partners.

-- Zacha: Not a terrible draft pick. Originally miscast as a defensive center, has done well at LW more recently. Was probably overpicked by 10-15 spots, but hardly a terrible pick.
-- Bratt: underperforming? He was a 6th rounder. And has been among league leaders in 5v5 play this year.
-- Hischier: 1oa at age 18, 1st line center at age 19, an all-star at age 20, and youngest captain in NHL at age 21. No one is disappointed in him, man.
-- Wood: great last year, hurt this year.
-- Severson: overused as #1 for years because we had no one else. He is a #2 or #3.
-- Tatar: Was rough first month, great every since.

Maybe mention some of the good moves that have occurred too
-- Coleman and Vatanen trades at 2020 trade deadline
-- Johnsson trade
-- Siegenthaler trade (looks to be like a great one)
-- Palmieri trade

What bad moves has Fitz done?

Tatar = good signing
Hamilton = amazing signing
Hughes = great signing
All RFAs = good signings
Bernier = good signing (unfortunate he got hurt)
Butcher = bad trade
Jaros = whatever
Graves = good trade
Kulikov = good trade (free 4th)
Siegenthaler = good trade
Palmieri = fair trade (good based on how palmier was playing)
Johnsson = great trade
Murray = good trade
Vatanen = great trade
McIntyre = doesn't even matter
Simmonds = good trade (free 5th)
Coleman = great trade
Greene = great trade

Drafted: L Hughes, Holtz, Mercer, Myjhamadullin, Daws, Stillman, etc

Idk what else you want him to do
Fitz is the last guy to blame

The trades with Carolina, Washington and two with Islanders were his best trades too. All within the division. People don’t realize how unique that can be.

Just Zacha doing well at LW more recently, I don't see it.
Average to begin the season, a liability going back 4-5 weeks.

The problem is the coaching. We broke up a very good line in Bratt - Mercer - AJ. The team has quit on Ruff and Recchi. This team has the tools to be 8th place. We need a competent coach. We also miss Miles Wood who was a presence in the locker room.
