I think that Jack Campbell will look at the $5 million AAV that Cal Petersen got after 54 NHL games and ask for something a little more than $4.25 million.

He does look fantastic in the video I've seen of him, and his stats for Karpat are amazing. But lets not put the cart before the horse. Nils lundkvist is a similar situation where he looked like the next great defenseman, tore up the SHL, and then didn't have the immediate NHL impact that some fans were expecting. Niemela is a great prospect, but lets wait and see

Devils decline
They need Zacha way more than Liljegren
And Zacha is going to make more than that (around $4M)

yeah this is the take imo. looks like he’ll be a solid player but he’s prob at least another year or two away from being a top 4 guy, keep the nhl ready guys you have right now

No chance Campbell signs for less than 5M

And let's not forget the lesson of Mikko Lehtonen, who was "the best defenseman in the KHL" before he came over here.

Niemala will be a stud but wiser to have him grow and adapt in the AHL for a season before calling him up. Also Campbell may take a discount but no doubt he's worth 6.5+. There will be desperate teams offering him 7 or 8 I'd bet

Even still, I think you're point stands. I'm a huge believer in Niemela (though I don't know if I see him becoming what some might expect just based on his base stats), but it's a lot to ask of anyone to step into and hold down a top 4 role that early.

The Hawks should sign him for $5M. I'd keep the term shorter. He probably would be ok with that. The cap will go up in a few years and he can make his mega bucks if he stays this good.

If Liljegren is 25 years old and only getting 1-year $900,000 contracts, I doubt he would return Zacha in a trade

Neimala is long way from being an NHLer. One thing he has to get a lot stronger. It would be foolish to trade Liljegren. And Mrazrek, team ms don't trade for players that don't have value to their contracts. Until Mrzarek can prove that.....he's a Leaf. Campbell doesn't sign that contract.

Hawks and Avs are the two teams that I think Campbell will sign with this summer. (well he's sign with just one team), 5m X 4 will get him...
