I like the Brassard addition but you would need to give up a pick, don't see how they would have any interest in Ritchie.

friedman seems to think chiarot can return a first, which seems preposterous to me since he’s meh but alas, some habs fan will comment angrily about it i’m sure

i’ve watched him play plenty lmao. he’s fine but the reason he’s desirable this deadline is because he’s the only guy available, not because he’s actually worthy of a first round pick. plays the “playoff style” but otherwise he’s been a black hole defensively this year and provides some scoring but he’s obviously not a traditional offensive d-man.

Off course not, and not a single Habs fans think he is worth a 1st RD pick, but he is a good acquisition for the playoffs

he's not worth a first but a desperate team will pay a first for him it's going to happen. I can see Edmonton doing it

I'd rather focus on other lower cost options. Guys like Pysyk on Buffalo, who's playing agianst top lines and is making everyone he plays with better while doing it, or Mayfield from the Islanders. They don't have the name recognition most people on here jump towards but they are putting up better results than Chiarot has over the last few seasons.

Never underestimate GM's who think/fool themselves into believing their team can win a Cup at the trade deadline. Remember when Greatest GM of all time David Poile traded a 1st round pick to Buffalo for 4C Paul Gaustad? Pepperidge Farms remembers. Filip Forsberg for Martin Erat anyone? George McPhee remembers.

Funny how you mention the gaustad trade, which at the time looked incredibly stupid. But has aged spectacularly for Nashville. The 1st they sent to Buffalo wasn't used by the Sabres. They packaged it with a 2nd to CGY to move up in the draft and selected Zemgus Girgensons. CGY used the pick on Mark Jankowski who ironically is on the Sabres rn.

There was a 4th that Buffalo sent to Nashville in that deal. The Preds used that on none other than Juuse Saros.

If Buffalo or Calgary had better scouting/management they probably don't make that look as lopsided. But it's fully how q trade that looked awful at the time ended up looking terrible for the other team

Brassard and McEwen for Ritchie? Thats insane.

Theres a reason most Leaf fans want rid of Ritchie.

Suffice to say if TOR got either of those alone for ritchie, it would be highway robbery.

I agree Chiarot's value is a 2nd but like my friend GM's said teams overpay at the deadline and the Leafs would also have to overpay with something that interests the Habs. Like Amirov + 3rd. Again not that anyone thinks that Chiarot is worth that but like others have said there are a limited number of good, cheap defensive D men available and Chiarot is the best of them and a number of teams will be bidding on him.

Yeah, Dermott's mistake directly led to Game 6 game winning goal for Montreal. I'll take the odd inconsequential deflection over a highly preventable turnover.

Montreal beat Toronto with Chiarot as their 1LD... Dermott cost a game/series as Toronto's 3RD... Yeah, i am picking Chiarot every time.

Yep and now with chariot as their 1ld and price, danault and weber gone the habs are one of the worst teams in the league while the leafs are one if the best.
Great choice.

yep, best goalie in the world, one of the best pure shutdown players in the league, and one of the best defensemen all missing... injuries to their 2LD, 1RD, and enough injuries to call up 6 Laval Rocket at forward, Chairot sure does suck...

Have a good one bud.

Dude, you're legit arguing that the habs 1LD is better than a guy who cant even make the leafs regular roster. And if all you got is that price stole a series for you in defence of your guy then you really gotta think about whats going on here.
