aight how about this

Team: 2022-23 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 21, 2021
Published: Dec. 21, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hopefully Kenny-boy would love to have his former top draft pick back in exchange for the Wings taking good 'ol Duncster off of his hands. Plus, Marody would probably love to come back home to Michigan and actually play NHL games instead of getting stuffed in the minors for the rest of his career. However, one must be sacrificed to keep the balance, so Smith is sent back to King Holland to serve out his contractual obligations. A 1st round pick may be too much, or it may not be enough, but there aren't really any good comparables for this one lol.

EDIT: nvm I guess Keith won't waive his NMC

Didn't know that, thanks for the info. I guess a better trade then would be for Barrie or Klefbom's contract, but the price would obviously shift.

Unfortunately not likely, Keith has a full NMC and isn't moving farther away from his kid.

Why would Detroit have any interest in this. Veleno finally NHL ready so they trade him for a late 1st to start the process all over again...and Keith + Marody offers nothing to Wings.

Klefbom is on LTIR so doesn't have a cap hit, no reason for Edmonton to move that contract.

Barrie is an elite offensive defenseman so there isn't enough in this trade (remove Edmonton's 1st, add Detroit's 1st?) to interest the Oilers.

The main purpose of adding a big contract (Keith, Barrie, Klefbom) is to get to the cap floor. That's the reason Klefbom's contract is a possible target. Also, "Barrie is an elite offensive defenseman"? I've gone up to bat for Barrie plenty of times, to defend him when people call him a cap dump, but he's not an "elite offensive defenseman". He's good, sure, and he has a knack for feeding elite talent, but I wouldn't go that far.

Idk, I get why we shouldn't move Veleno but I just have a feeling deep down that he's never gonna reach his potential. He's been practically invisible on the ice ever since that debut 2-point game this season, and while I get that he's still developing, I don't see enough right now to confidently say he's ever going to be more than a third-liner at best. I'm not giving up all hope, but he's been such a slow burner with his development that it makes it hard for me to get excited about him. Just my gut feeling about him, but I definitely understand why Detroit shouldn't move him.

He's proven, over many years, to be an elite offensive producer. That's unquestionable. Anyone in the top-10 over a significant period of time is "elite".

Over the past 3+ seasons: 6th among all defensemen
Over the past 4+ seasons: 5th
Over the past 5+ seasons: 6th
Over the past 6+ seasons: 7th
Over the past 7+ seasons: 7th
Over the past 8+ seasons: 6th

(Based on total points)

Zack Kassian may be your guy. He's somewhat of a local, being from Windsor, his personal story is inspiring, he's a popular team mate, unlike most of the current Oilers he's been a strong playoff performer, he has the skill to play up or down the lineup, he replaces Smith and will defend his team mates, and he's overpaid given his recent injury history and inconsistent play. His AAV is not quite a high as Barrie's so adding Turris may be necessary in order to build a perfect fit with what you are trying to achieve.

That’s a good idea, I like the fit. It always helps to have another right-shot forward on this team lol

Yzerman can trade Smith any day of the week and I wouldn’t be upset. He’s a spare part. Veleno is a good fit and has been looking good out there. I’d take a 1st or 2nd to take on the last year of Keith.
