An overpay for a position that the Leafs don't need to fill by spending assets to acquire.

Can anyone tell me if Chychrun can play RD?

If so, leafs need to pounce.

If not, then pass on getting him. We already have enough LHDs.

He does not play the right side.

Ok, in that case, acquiring him makes no sense unless

a) they can trade Muzzin or

b) they get him at a complete steal of an offer.

Even if they could get rid of Muzzin (they will this offseason) leafs have Sandin and Dermott. It just isn't a pisition if need. Defence in general is deep enough on the leafs.

I agree it's not a position of need, but still, in the hypothetical situation where they get him fairly cheap, he's significantly better than Muzzin right now and in the future.

Overall though I think the costs outweigh the benefits in a Chychrun trade considering they don't need him. I'm just pointing out that if for some reason they were able to get him cheap they might as well do it.

Yotes want a kings ransom. So he will not be cheap. Great player but just no need for him. Unless you are moving Sandin in the deal as well.

Oh I agree, which is why at the end of the day Chychrun is not ending up in Toronto.
