Bruins would be better off just not qualifying debrusk than taking on a bad contract.

Labanc is not a bad contract. He's a very strong player having a bad year. I do see a higher need to improve 2C instead though.

Labanc needs an offensive minded center to be successful. Lining up with Bonino and Weatherby was not complimentary of his game.

ah yes, because the bruins have a plethora of those at their disposal lol. ide take labanc in a heartbeat but if there was a way to ship debrusk for a 2c thats the necessary avenue to head down.

No one wants DeBrusk at 5M if a meh contract isn’t going the other way

Would you offer him that deal if he was a free agent right now?

It’s not one year. It’s been three consecutive including this one.

If I had a good 2C and the cap space. I would. But with a down year you’d probably get him cheaper as a FA. Can’t really use that as an analogy.

Again, unless you’ve been asleep the last couple years, it’s not a down year. Cmon pal, this isn’t very hard.

Let’s agree that I’m right and you are wrong.

Okay, lets dive into it a bit. What specifically was labanc doing over the last three seasons (this one included) that means that they weren’t down years given that he was scoring at a very low rate? What was so special about his 33 point season that meant that it wasn’t a down year coming off his one good year of 56 points?

What does labanc do in your mind that justifies paying a guy with term 4.725M, even though he’s never scored 20 goals in a season?

debrusk isnt at 5m hes at 3.8m his QO is high but you might be able to bridge or get a longer term shorter money deal done. he cant look at his last 2 years and expect hes gunna get close to his QO.

DeBrusk will ask for is QO, if he don’t get it, he will go straight to the free market

the free market wont pay him whats hes making now... hes better off trying to make a go of it with a team that actually wants him and cashes in on his next deal. Just because the QO is high doesnt mean the team needs to qualify him. he can still stick around with that team without the QO. Im a bruins fan, i dont see any team willing to go beyond 3m long term for him right now. you just dont know what you are gunna get. and if the bruins trade him and he rebounds for someone else. maybe that team takes the risk. maybe not. he will likely rebound on another team, he isnt a defense first forward. if he went somewhere like toronto, he would be a 60 point winger.

I think you are right on with this take. The cap space in the offseason will have more value than the asset (DeBrusk) has now. Of course the cap space means nothing if the GM is clueless on how to use it.
