I’d probably retain 50% of Chiarot and Lehkonen and take Turris back. Idk if the Oilers would say no to this though. That’s quite a bit going there way and would surely make that stronger for the playoffs. Chiarot alone is going to net a 1st round pick. Of course they’d prefer to give up neither but if they had to choose would they prefer to give up Holloway or Broberg I wonder.

Agreed that 50% retained on Chiarot would probably get a first from a contender. But in order to make this work, MTL would have to retain 50% on all 3 contracts, plus have EDM throw in a cap dump or 2. I'd be hesitant to throw in Broberg or Holloway, but of course you have to give to get. If I'm EDM, I'd rather throw in a first this year and a guy like Benson or Lavoie. Both Lehkonen and Allen are really just depth, but since goaltending has been an issue and the bottom 6 in EDM has been horrendous, they're [probably worth while pieces to get.

But wouldn’t they have enough cap without doing all that since it’s just the remaining % of the contract not the entire cap hit considering they’re deadline deals? I thought that’s how it worked.

Almost correct. It's the remaining % of the contract for the remaining days of the season (season is 186 divide that by the contract amount and then multiply by the remaining amount of days). Oilers only have about half a mil in space, so it might not be all 3, but at least 2. I don't have enough fingers to count on to figure it out. LOL
