This makes very little sense for both teams

That’s an easy way to dump two guys who openly want out and pick up hardly anything for a half retained Giroux. Too bad that would never happen.

Very common misconception on here that a player loses trade value because they want out. It’s not really a thing. PLD publicly demanded a trade then tanked, did they sell him cheap? Nah, he went for his value. Debrusk’s play and Seny’s lack of it bring their value down. Nothing else.

1st, 2nd, Debrusk for Giroux as a rental is pretty fair value. If Philly is selling retention for remainder of the year means absolutely nothing to them.

What kind of math are you using? They are not even a playoff team at this point.

Most likely a bubble team either a WC team or just missing it. Leaving them to pick in the 14-22 range. Same range they picked in last year, and that devalued “late” pick turned into a player everyone demands in trade on here. Only way they pick “late” is if they go to the finals.

Teams with “early” picks are not deadline buyers and are not trading 1sts. Nobody gets early 1sts in deadline deals. Of all the teams that might be buyers Boston would be trading one of the better 1sts.

While I agree with your first and third points, the reason Lysell is demanded in trades is because he is your only high quality prospect. If they make the conference finals, or even the conference semi-finals, that’s still a late pick.

Their are tiers to any draft. But generally late picks are 22-24+. This team with a few upgrades is still not making a deep run.
