I mean going forward at least one of Greig, Sokolov, or Jarventie will fill one of those top 6 winger spots. Better to hold on to your assets and sign a good free agent who can bring some veteran leadership to the team (Giroux would be perfect).

I would say a good goaltender would be a pretty big need.

I don't see Kleven making the jump from UND to NHL, and certainly not if he's paired with another inexperienced D man. I'm kind of hoping they keep Holden since he has proven ability in playing both sides and seems like a great guy in the locker room too.

This is more long term, where I think Kleven could be an effective third pair defenseman

I am not fixed on any of them being legit top 6 forwards, but they do have the abiity.
Greig: might not have offensive upside, could just be a third liner
Jarventie: Boom or bust, if he booms then he's a top 6 for sure
Sokolov: Consistency and will be 22 soon, so not tons of development left

Ah. Okay. I was mislead by the 22-23 timeline the team is listed under. But I agree and hope that Kleven eventually becomes Borowiecki 2.0 (a little more hockey sense, way better skating).

Really like that lineup but I think it'll be a bit early for Kleven and Sogaard. And also a big role for a young inexperienced guy like JBD

Nah, TEAM DEFENSE should be the focus. Guys like Sanderson and JBD will help the defense big time. Shane Pinto and Angus Crookshank will help the forward group a lot, as well as Colin White if he's healthy

Last season it took 2 months for DJ smith (and Dorion) to figure out the right personnel and hockey systems to have a proper NHL defense. During the first month, they had one of the worst GA/GP of the decade

This season as well it's taking a while... so coaching is also a reason why the Sens struggle defensively

Gustavsson, Murray and Forsberg... team would be fine in goaltending if they could at least have an average NHL defense. Look at the numbers after March 13th last season :

Murray : 0.954 SV% (5 GP)
Gustavsson : 0.933 SV% (9 GP)
Hogberg : 0.912 SV% (4 GP)
Forsberg : 0.909 SV% (8 GP)
Daccord : 0.906 SV% (3 GP)

Not comparable to the first 2 months of the season. It's not the goalies who suddenly turned on a switch at the same time and decided "let's stop being ECHL caliber goalie guys, let's be NHL vezina level instead"

Murray : 0.891 SV% (22 GP)
Daccord : 0.880 SV% (5 GP)
Hogberg : 0.859 SV% (10 GP)

These 3 made a major jump in SV% for these sequences.

I'm not saying one play determines a career but this replay shows his IQ and hands in a few seconds. This guy has a lot more potential than people think. He "could just be a third liner" but I have money on much more than that
