I agree that sometimes the “grit-grind” philosophy is excessive, but there is value in a shutdown line, and they’ve been running Neighbours-Greig-Sourdif the entire camp, with good success, and even Canada’s “grit-grinders” are gonna be good offensively. These 3 are veteran guys, who provide some physicality, leadership, responsibility in their own end, and underrated offense (all 3 are among the points per game leaders in the W, with Sourdif’s 1.38ppg the lowest of the 3, so it’s not like they’re useless offensively). It might also interest you to know that Desnoyers has a better points per game than Stankoven this year. If you’re gonna play Bourque at C with Bourgault on his RW, it would be on the 4th line though, likely with Cuylle on LW, Desnoyers as 13F, Guenther moving up to the Johnson-McTavish line, and Stankoven scratched. Wright and McTavish are the top two centres (I did expect a little more from him so far, but he hasn’t been bad enough to lose his spot), and Bourgault hasn’t been very good in camp/game 1.

Yeah, but this is the World Juniors not the CHL, Desnoyers has been absolutely terrible.

Bourque played center over Wright tonight for a reason, plus Wright has been quite disappointing. I wouldn’t reward him for that.

Realistically I could maybe see:

Pereftti-Bourque-Wright
Johnson-McTavish-Bedard
Neighbours-Greig-Sourdif
Cuylle-Stankoven-Bourgault/Guenther (neither can play center)
Bourgault/Guenther

If Wright or Bedard get overworked/overwhelmed rotate them with Guenther/Bourgault.

I know, that’s a funny way of saying “Loui Eriksson”

Finally saw Wright and Kasper, both are really solid two hundred foot centres. I really like Kasper especially so far, seemed to actually create chances for an Austrian team that had nothing going. Wright had some flashes of brilliance but was by no means spectacular. Bit disappointing.

For my 2022 rankings thus far in the tournament

1. Brad Lambert
2. Simon Nemec
3. Shane Wright
4. Logan Cooley
5. Marco Kasper
6. Filip Mesar
7. Joakim Kemell
8. Juraj Slafkovsky

Haven’t seen enough of Yurov yet

Desnoyers gets the boot, he’s worse than Comeau (both fall over often, do giveaway’s, play over good players, are 4th line grit grinders who don’t belong there).

If Stankoven gets scratched I will completely lose it.

Lines when fully healthy should be:

Perfetti-Bourque-Bourgault
Johnson-McTavish-Stankoven
Cuylle-Wright-Bedard
Neighbours-Greig-Guenther

Power-Seeley
Guhle-Cormier
Sebrango-Zellweger

Garand
Cossa

Extras would be Sourdif and Lambos

The worst player for Team Canada thus far is Seeley.

He reminds me of Erik Gustafsson, solid in the offensive zone, but he's a giveaway machine and can't make a defensive play to save his life. Not good IMO

🤷‍♂️ The World Juniors is all about turnovers, it’s pretty much pond hockey. Not too worried about him, IMO still a steal for CAR to get him in the 7th round. Makes great outlet passes, really like his mobility with the puck. Really good in transition and creating offence.

Another forfeit, well at least this one was the likely outcome anyways

This tournament is rapidly turning into a joke. What's the point of putting the whole team in quarantine if one player has a case? I can't fathom the idea behind this. That won't help stop the spread at all as it seems to be nigh impossible to do it in any case. Seems utterly pointless.

Not really, the team all plays together and let's be honest, the locker rooms are probably a great place to transmit it

Basically every place that has multiple people in it is a great place for a virus to spread. It's near impossible to avoid completely.

Just don't understand why do they have to isolate the whole team instead of the players that have a positive test result. Why does IIHF's stand on this differ so much from the NHL's one where they might have a team with loads of cases still playing?

Watch if Canada's games get cancelled because of this. The meltdown in social medias will be absolutely massive.

Absolutely they are, I decided to not play the hockey this year and two of my close buddies got covid three days ago along with the entire team. Locker room, super spreader.

This tournament is going to end prematurely at this rate...I'm almost certain of it

Or to be fair it could be a race of which team can keep themselves without a single case.

Imagine if a team has to forfeit in a medal game due to one case

Don't think we're going to have a gold medal game at this rate.

Okay, this is getting a bit much, Czech's forfeiting against Finland was fine due to Finland probably winning anyways, USA vs the Swiss was the 1st but seems like they should've planned for extra days now

Seems like IIHF didn't plan well, no bubble or extra days in case of cases

Lmao yeah this is definitely over now. Not a single team playing in Red Deer is going to make it until the week end without a single case.

How about postponing the rest of this tournament to summer, just after the playoffs but before the NHL draft? And play in an actual bubble?

The IIHF will meet today to discuss the future of the WJC, cancellation is on the table apparently
