Yep, Amirov in general fits Toronto's system

Good 2-way player who can be beneficial on a teams PP, PK and shootouts.

Toronto chose him for his ceiling which is pretty high. Got a feeling once he joins the Marlies is where he will take that next step.

Could not have said it better. Obviously Mercer is very good, but the Leafs are pretty well off down the middle for the next little while. Amirov is a valuable two way winger. Its a shame he is too old for the World Juniors, would have loved to watch more of him

Mercer is alright but is he tearing up the NHL no

8 goals and 8 assists in 30 games is not tearing anything up.

An example of a 2020 prospect who is tearing up the NHL rn is Raymond with 10 goals and 18 assists in 31 games.

Then you got the 16 PIM which is not great for a rookie.

Patience is key for Amirov who has a very high ceiling that should be reached once he is ready but as of rn he is not.

Well he was in 2 so its fine. Not everyone can be in 3. That takes a very special player

I agree Mercer isn’t tearing it up but he would have been the better pick than Amirov (as of now)
His stats aren’t fully reflective of how good of a player he is
Mercer started off the season off very hot but cooled down when Hughes came back and the Devils started to fall off. But as a 20 year old, Mercer has been fantastic

I would not say the messed up, both Amirov and Mercer are very very good players. I will say that with how well Matthew Knies has played and looks to become a very good top 6 winger, having Robertson and Amirov on the wings seems redundant. Hindsight as it is now, I would probably take the Center in Mercer.

Yep hes been fantastic but I just dont think he fits our system. Been talking to so many scouts and they been saying the same thing Amirov fits as when you watch his playstyle seems like the type of guy Nylander would love on the left side.

I got a feeling once Amirov hits the AHL thats when he will shine as getting 5 mins in the KHL if hes lucky really wont give him much in terms of trying to get points. Still despite that 1 goal and 2 assists in 7 games aint bad when you consider hes playing against men.

I think having Knies, Robertson, Amirov really aint a bad thing as each provides something we can use in time.

Amirov and Robertson can play top 6 with Amirov being on line 1 and Robertson being on line 2. Then you got Knies who can help make a line similar to Coleman-Gourde-Goodrow was for Tampa. Just need to see who is gonna be the center as for sure the RW of this future 3rd line probs gonna be Holmberg.

maybe the year after a draft is too early to say the leafs messed up ?
Mercer is in the NHL and doing well thats fine. The guy who makes the show first isnt always the better player down the road.
imagine saying "the ducks really messed up by not taking nils hoglander" because nils had 27pts in 56 games and zegras wasnt in the league yet
