I think this only makes sense if DET plans on trading Namestnikov and not re-signing him. They seem like they would fill the same role on the team. I don’t mind the deal for DET though— nice to add some more size to this lineup as well.

If Bergevin was still GM he would probably say no because he loves armia but Gorton as the new guy has no loyalty to anyone yet and would probably do it simply to free up cap space.

I agree with the MB portion but Gorton likes advanced stats and Armia is a possession monster so Gorton might not be willing to part with him so easily either.

My only problem with this deal is that he pronounces his name Yo-well Armia.

I MEAN WHO DOES THAT?

I like Armia as a player but in this instance I think that trade does more good for Montreal than it does for Detroit. His contract isn't the most team friendly deal around. If Montreal are some salary then sure, but like this I don't really like it. I know the price is small but it's the term that is the issue here. I would rather give that roster spot to Berggren in the future here to see what he can do at the NHL level.

I would make the trade but would try and get a 3rd or 4th. If it stays a 5th, would ask for a young prospect.

Habs would need to retain about 1 M$ per season

If Gorton pulls this off without retention, Habs fans would have one more reason to be enthusiastic about Gorton

Armia is the new Byron contract, the kind of contract that doesn't picked up on waivers even if LESS term.
