Ottawa is not spending picks to bring in a pending UFA that won't re-sign with us.

Try again.

If Puttsburgh is retaining 50%, why wouldn't Dorion do this? He flips Zucker eating another 50% and suddenly that 3rd looks like a late first. A $1.4 million Zucker sure as hell gets that.

Think outside the box.

The problem isn’t that he’s not good, it’s that he isn’t worth 5.5M and doesn’t pair well with Sid or geno. He is still a good top 6 option that works better with finishers and isn’t compatible with other play drivers.

Yup ok. 🤣🤣🤣

I see a player that simply doesn't fit his current circumstance.

Reimer was average as a Cane. As a Shark he is looking like a Vezina candidate. Tatar as Canadien was fantastic. As a Devil, pedestrian.

Funny what scenery does.

Dorion wouldn't do this because Zucker is a depreciating asset.

Let's assume we went along with your little scheme.

Another team would only give us a late 3rd round pick for Zucker after we spent an early 3rd round pick to get him from Pittsburgh in the first place.

It's a waste of time for Ottawa.

Sometimes, the best trade ideas are the ones that are so simple that they would actually work.

Try again.

In this scenario, Zucker would be going from a Stanley Cup contender to one of the worst teams in the league currently.

As a pending UFA.

He’s almost a ppg player with Sid. It’s not about playing with finishers or playmakers. It’s about playing with north/south faster players as opposed to east/west slower players. Malkin plays more of an East/west game to open space for himself and Carter is old and slower. He is almost a ppg player with Crosby because Crosby is a north/south player and still has the legs to keep up.

It's a 3rd round pick for a solid top 6 winger only making 2.75.

That Dumoulin trade is horrific.

Howden isn't an NHL level player and the picks are worthless.

Your completely ignoring the point that they were making about cap retention. Zucker at 5.5=No value-Zucker at 2.75=3rd round pick-Zucker at 1.4=1st round pick (I’d say a 2cnd+low value player but that’s just me). Any player at 50% retention is more valuable than at full contract. If you want a comparable, look at mike Hoffman being traded to FLA after OTT traded him to SJS. His value was higher because he was acquired for a price and a team won’t flip a player for less than acquired on a short time span (especially with retention)

Zucker?

A solid top 6 winger?

That's rich.

Also, using coarse language to get someone to calm down is hilarious.

Never ceases to amaze me laugh

What's your point, acquire and flip.

No foward thinking here at all.

1. If I was ignoring the point about cap retention, it's because Zucker will come to Ottawa as a pending UFA and then leave as a pending UFA.

We wouldn't even make the playoffs together or have the chance to say goodbye.

Furthermore, there's no guarantee that we would net a 1st for Zucker from a third team, let alone break even.

You're not seeing the forest for the trees.

2. So ...

the difference in value between Zucker at 2.75 million and Zucker at 1.4 million is the same as the difference in value between a 1st and a 3rd?

I'd love to know how you calculated all that.

3. You're way off with the Hoffman comparable because it's not comparable.

The Penguins would be better served by being the ones to actually trade Zucker for a 1st round pick.

My point is there's no guaranteed incentive for Ottawa to "acquire and flip".

Zucker is Pittsburgh's problem, not Ottawa's.

You're just going to have to deal with it.

The Zucker trade is not bad proposal. I don't know about his character "in the room" but could be a decent stop gap at that price.

But the thing is Ottawa might not have any openings, particularly in the forward group

Centers : Tim Stutzle, Josh Norris, Shane Pinto, Colin White (also RW), Nick Paul (also LW), Parker Kelly (also LW), Mark Kastelic (could be the 4th line center but not more)
LW : Brady Tkachuk, Alex Formenton, Ridly Greig (also C), Angus Crookshank, Roby Jarventie (won't bring him until he's 100% ready)
RW : Drake Batherson, ?????????, Connor Brown, Austin Watson, Egor Sokolov (won't bring him until he's 100% ready)

The real big hole is Top-6 RW. I know Connor Brown produces very well but he is not a top-6 forward, he's a matchup forward and pretty much all his offense comes at EV. The idea is to have a very strong top-9 and Connor on the "3rd line" definitely helps with that. Jason Zucker as the 2nd line RW DOES NOT.

Ottawa declines

No, this happened because Pierre Dorion was totally unqualified as a NHL GM (and still is)

Dorion didn't want to trade Hoffman East and he just got played by Wilson
