Description

The Blackhawks should be hiring a new Pres. of hockey of ops in the coming weeks or months; aside from franchise image-repair, this person should be re-thinking the franchise from the bottom up. But a lot of Blackhawks fans are still talking about making another "run" with Toews and Kane and gushing over the cap space they'll have this summer. This is a reality check: I plugged minimal AAV for their FAs and bought out Tyler Johnson, and it cleared up a whopping $14M. . . . the first job of the new Pres/GM is to have that talk with Kane and Toews: "do you guys really want to stick around for a rebuild?"

Yeah, at least half of the teams in the league run to the bank with that kind of an offer. Late 2nd for Kubalik? Bad deal for the Hawks.

That was in there mostly as filler. But I wouldn't actually count on much for Kubalik. His arbitration qualifying offer next year is about $4.3 M and he's on pace for 16 goals.

I feel like between strome and now kubalik, the hawks have done a poor job of protecting or even building up trade value in their players. I genuinely don’t know or even think a team would be willing to trade a late 1st for kuba based on his qualifying offer. The hawks have got to start churning out young talent like the use to, cuz they don’t have a future if they don’t. Dach has still been underwhelming offensively as is, and that’s the worst one yet.

I don't know that Strome has asked, but he's certainly been on the block for a while, and he hasn't been getting much of chance to play. Kubalik likely has not asked to be traded, but it seems like Chicago could spend $4.3M more efficiently, based on the poor season he's been having. He's probably a good change-of-scenery candidate.
