Most likely we aren't rebuilding, more likely we retool to suit Gorton and the new GM's image of the team. I think a full rebuild is out of the question though given how long it would take to sell off all of our veteran assets and the fact that Montreal fans would accept 2 years of bad play but I don't think they would last 4 or 5 years

I think at this point the distinction is pretty moot simply because of where the habs are. If the habs play this TDL right and the draft goes their way (aka winning the lotto) the turnaround will be pretty swift. Trading Chiarot should net a nice piece and Toffoli is likely gone too which will net a very nice haul. Suzuki romanov poehling caufield guhle mailloux Primeau Norliner are all 23 or younger and they will be adding likely a top 5 prospect in the upcoming draft. Add in those return pieces and all of a sudden you are looking at a pretty solid group to build around.

Last season we were one of the youngest groups in the league, we have a pretty solid group of young players and a pretty solid group of prime players (25-30). We have a few older players (31+) but there aren't too many of them and guys like Price and Petry play very large roles. We aren't a typical team looking at a rebuild where we have a tone of 30+ yo guys and very few young guys. I mean the average age of our roster is 24.8 so how much younger do we really want to go? We need to play out this season moving a few guys like Chiarot and maybe Toffoli (I would rather move Hoffman though) and see how our draft goes. I don't see any reason to go full rebuild though. We need a top 6 C and a top 4 RHD and maybe a top 4 LHD (depending on how Guhle and Norlinder progress the rest of the year) and we don't look so bad.

I just can’t fathom how the Habs went from being such a good team to the bottom of the conference in less than half a year.
Is it the covid thing?
Was it the GM they fired? Bergevin?
(I think he really overpaid for Anderson, he is at his peak now).
I know Price took a leave, which probably didn’t help at all.
It looks like there are a ton of draft assets for 2022.
Any rebuild should be fairly quick with a few strategic TDL trades.
