If you're getting both...and retaining on MAF...AND Dumping Kassians mutli year deal on the Hawks...Hollway is a requirement.
Scoring 30 goals in 1 season in the NHL I'd FAR FAR FAR from a guarantee for any NHL prospect.
I can agree that the trade proposal doesn't seem to be realistic, but I disagree that a deal must include Holloway.
If Chicago and Edmonton were to consider a deal involving MAF and Kubalik, Chicago would have to take on some salary this time around. Koskinen is the Oiler that makes the most sense to involve, because his contract expires at the end of the season and his cap hit is 64% of MAF's. I don't think Chicago would, or should, include salary retention if they take on Koskinen, and I do think that the Oilers have to give up better than their 2023 4th round pick in order to make this deal more palatable than what might be offered to the Hawks by other teams.
I like Kubalik, but his 30 goal season was 2 years ago. His 17 goals last year were also impressive, but he has only 6 so far this season. Plus/minus in not a great individual stat, but it can be a pretty solid indicator of other factors. In this respect Kubalik is not impressive at all. From an Oiler perspective, there would have to be concerns with this, as 5vs5 scoring is problematic for Edmonton and it looks like adding Kubalik might worsen that situation. Kubalik is a LW, and fitting him into a suitable roster spot would require moving one of Foegele, Nugent-Hopkins or Hyman, the later would likely require moving Puljujarvi as well. There are also some significant salary cap implications if the Oilers brought in Kubalik (quite likely why the ACGM included Kassian in the proposed deal).
From the biased perspective of an Oiler fan, I think Koskinen, Yamamoto, Lavoie, & Edmonton's 2023 2nd round draft pick = MAF and Kubalik. I recognize that many Blackhawk fans will feel I am significantly undervaluing MAF and Kubalik and overvaluing Yamamoto, Lavoie, and the draft pick, and I accept the difference of opinions for what they are, opinions. I believe the Blackhawks are trying to rebuild on the run and may use the bit of cap space created in swapping goaltenders to take on a contract from a contending team in exchange for a prospect or draft pick; slot Yamamoto onto the 3rd line and penalty kill units, then sign him to a team-friendly deal in the summer, saving more cap space in comparison to keeping Kubalik, continue with a patient development of Lavoie into a middle six NHL forward, and use the 2nd round pick to draft, or acquire assets from a different club. At some point before the 2023 TDL, the Blackhawks can move Kane and Toews and be back into serious playoff, maybe even Stanley Cup, contention by the 2023/24 season.
