Initial Creation Date: Dec. 29, 2021
Published: Dec. 31, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
There is some potential for a quick turnaround. I could see this team back in the playoffs next season, depending on how they utilize their cap space. Davidson isn't off to the hottest start trading Krys for Gabriel, but maybe he's got better moves in mind down the road.

avs decline, they dont have room for a 3rd goalie and thats a massive over payment for Lankinen. you will be lucky to get a 5th for him

He's worth more than a 5th, if Francouz gets injured again they'll be scrambling for options. He's better than Michael Hutchinson.

hes a depth goalie, hes not going to start. A 3rd for the back up to the back up insurance policy is just flat out over payment.
No one is going to give a 3rd for a 3rd goalie with poor numbers this year, especially a pending UFA.

Look at the TDL returns for 3rd sting goalies, they are 5th and 6th rounds. Not 3rds

Lankinen is a back up, his "poor numbers" are indicative of a poor team to play on. Even Fleury's numbers have inflated greatly from last year with Vegas. The hawks just stink defensively.

Hes not taking Frankies back up job, hes a 3rd goalie on contending teams, no one Is looking at him and saying hes goign to be an upgrade to their back up position for serious cup contenders. His numbers were poor last year, and they are even worse now. No one is buying what you are selling with him

You cant manifest additional value to him, he is what he is, a pending UFA 3rd string goalie for a cup contender. He would be sitting in the press box the whole playoffs. That is not worth a 3rd round pick to any team

This trade is if Francouz gets hurt, which is pretty likely given his history.

He’s the back up, trading a good pick for a worse goalie to be the back in incase Frankie gets hurts makes even less sense

A bad goalie who won’t see a minute of playing time behind kuemper doesn’t help the avs playoff run. That draft pick can get a depth fwd or dman that could help, not a bench or press box warmer

If avs have goalie injuries at t he tdl they aren’t going after a bekow average goalie like Lankinen

I'd like to extend Lankinen sooner rather than later. I agree his numbers are more so due to the defense infront of him, but his numbers are what they are. I'd like him to be our 1b option next year. Heck, his current numbers might be why he extends for 2 years on the cheap. Getting millions of dollars to play hockey is better than what he was getting in Finland. I can promise that.

Fair, I just don't know what the hawks plan is with him or really any goaltenders. Commesso looks good, but there's a small sample size there and he's likely years away. When is this team going to try and contend again? We all thought they were going all-in this season, that flopped. They have to recoup some picks and rework the prospect pool.
