A cool look at next year

Created by: Dmaz026
Team: 2022-23 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 31, 2021
Published: Dec. 31, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I thought this would be a cool idea, Ive seen a few Boeser trades from Vancouvers POV. This one I saw would be a huge help with the Rebuild. I know not everyones on board with another winger, but this lineup is DEEP. As any good team should be. It doesnt leave any odd man out, and this is arguably the most depth this team has had in a while. Overpaying for Letang to come here isnt bad either, only 2 years and we could absolutely use the help there. If you see any issues feel free to comment!

You'd have to replace the 2nd and 5th with a high-end prospect for the Canucks to accept

eh I'd probably want a center or a RD. The Canucks are kinda set at LW and LD

Kris Letang and Braden Holtby??? Holy overpayments

Holtby is having a decent season in Dallas sure, but he hasn't been amazing for them

Price you have to pay to get people to Buffalo. Low market team that hasnt gone anywhere in 10+ years. It sucks but we have the money.

Maybe not, But just so ya know….
It was a VAN fan that proposed that deal originally

I'm the one who originally posted, and Buffalo ain't parting ways with their own 2022 1st for anything. Vancouver would gladly accept a late 1st, and the 2nd will be early

I thought it seemed reasonable for both sides
But who knows what the real life GMs think?

It's interesting, Boeser is a good player. But I thought Letang would stay in Penguins and it's not a question of money, like Crosby and Malkin.

I don’t think anyone is gonna give Letang anywhere near $9mil per though
He might be closer to half that if he wants something long term

And i think he just did it as a 2year deal,
so that gives Letang the option to be traded at the deadline of the 2nd year of the contract to a contender if we still stink

So he’d really only be giving up 1 year of potential “winning”
And he’d get about $6mil extra (my guess) to do so

    So I’d say it’s a “maybe”
Just bc that’s quite the overpay

If Vancouver were to trade Boeser I think they could get a better offer.

I just think Letang will resign with Penguins, even if they offer him 6-7 million, and Buffalo will offer 9M. This guy has been playing there his entire career,

Yeah, but I'm very confident Letang won't be one of them, he isn't exactly good at staying healthy so that works against him too

But i have faith that there will always be GMs out there making stupid decisions

Seth Jones, Darnell Nurse, Charlie Coyle, Trading and signing for Barclay Goodrow (good player but way overpaid), Blake Coleman (complete player, but should generate more offense for what he's being paid)

Zach Werenski (Columbus clearly had to pay a staying tax on his contract), Nick Foligno hasn't exactly worked out in Boston, Erik Haula hasn't worked out in Boston, Derek Forbort (looks like Don Sweeney has been as sharp as he has been in the past)

Those are some of the more questionable signings of the last two off-seasons that are active
