why would the canucks do this? They are on a roll and making up ground. Oilers are struggling, why bail them out giving them the 1G they need and sewer the canucks window to compete moving their straight goalie

Value wise it's a fair deal particularly if you remove the Kos part of the trade (Kos + 1st). Vancouver still passes though

Oilers aren't giving up a 1st to move Koskinen...

1st and Bouchard for Demko seems like fair value but Oilers would need to make cap space somehow.

They get a top pair D and two 1sts…demko is great but I’d take Bouchard over him.

Because Canucks would grab significant futures trading to a team in desperate need to make some noise while they have the two best players in the game.

Canucks are just as desperate to make the playoffs, if you move demko the Canucks are blowing it up, bc you just destroyed their ability to realistically compete

Unless the Canucks are blowing it up, they aren’t moving their starting goalie.

They are just as desperate to make to playoffs as the oilers are,

The Canucks will likely move JT Miller before the deadline even if they have a chance at making the playoffs. Starting goalies are a lot easier to find than top pair RHD. Oilers are getting fleeced in this trade

its not the value, its the concept of trading Demko. the canuck are not blowing up their team at the deadline. They are on pace to over take the Oilers spot in the division. Why are they solving a division rivals biggest need while in the process entering a tear down after going 8-1-1 and making up all that ground int he division. Makes 0 sense

You still don’t get it. Demko is untouchable. They don’t have anyone to replace him. At this pace, the Canucks won’t be sellers meaning they aren’t gonna blow up the core. It makes no sense.

If any team offers this kind of value for a goaltender, you take it and figure out the goaltending situation in the offseason. Bouchard + two 1sts is an insane overpay

Demko is becoming one of the best goaltenders in the league. I do not doubt he will be a vezina finalist in the next 3 years and maybe even win it. You can figure out the goaltending situation for starters, but you don't trade guys that are this important to our future and current success.

Do the Jets trade Hellebuyck? Do the Ducks trade Gibson? Does Tampa trade Vasy?
Rhetorical questions because we all know the answer.

I'm not saying demko is at those guys level yet, but he's not far off. He is untouchable. The new management and Bruce himself have indirectly said this.

Starting goalies, but not elite goalies. Demko is an elite goaltender.

He is an elite goalie, but you build around a top pair RHD over a goaltender any day. I get that the Canucks wouldn't want to move him, but if they got this offer they'd have to consider it.

VAN is not moving Demko.

Rutherford: "One of the real pluses is we have a franchise goalie (Thatcher Demko). When you’re trying to build a championship team, and you already have that piece in place, you can start chipping away at things".

and Canucks fans still hate it lol. I mean it is missing an Alex Tuch. Also Demko doesn't have a neck that requires surgery that is dangerous enough his team doesn't want him to complete it.

This is essentially what I am saying. Yes Demko is legit an elite goalie. We all thought Cory Schneider was an elite goalie as well when he was traded for 9OA. Demko is more established and I think Edmonton's needs are greater is why I think the return makes sense. I think it's an overpay by the oilers to be fair.

Still that's a top pair dman and 2 1st round picks for a goalie who's 2.55 GAA is the 25th best in the league and his .920 SV% is the 18th best in the league.

It’s Bouchard and 1 first or Bouchard, two firsts, and a cup dump in Koskinen. It just doesn’t make sense to go out of their way to trade their franchise goalie for futures

The Canucks have one of the worst D cores in the NHL and all 3 of your RD would be 7th defenseman on half the teams in the league. It’s very rare for goalies to be consistently elite, most of their numbers vary from year to year. It’s always the right move to trade a goalie for a young top pair D.
