I disagree honestly. I think it’s definitely fair. Savoie, and Samorukov are both good prospects, the pick is good, and yes you would get a second for Barrie. I would not upgrade the second to a first… that’s too much In my opinion.
What works against your team in this offer is that Montreal already have similar guys in their team and as good as Savoie is, he's in the NCAA so no guarantees that he signs. Caufield is already a diminutive scoring winger and they also have Sean Farrell who scores at about the same pace as Sav in Harvard. The Canadiens depth at LD is at all time highs at the moment so for us, as good as Dmitri is, he doesn't move the needle at all.
If we look at it from the other side of the table, if you're in Montreal's shoes you obviously want Holloway as he's got a past with Caufield and is also an excellent prospect. You'll then say I'm crazy and Dylan's untouchable, but in reality I give you a top four defender and a cost controlled 30 goals scorer (Especially if paired with Drai) so am I that crazy to think I could get a serious piece coming back instead of quantity? Bouchard's untouchable and I understand cause he'll be a stepping stone for that defense for a decade, Broberg is LD so as previously mentionned not a trade target, McLeod's upside is limited and Montreal doesn't need another goalie prospect so who's left? Holloway's extremely tempting, Lavoie's boom or bust and now that he can't use his size to overpower 5'9" kids he's got more trouble finding the net and finally Bourgault who could be appealing but I doubt Edmonton part ways with their latest first rounder.
In the end I doubt that Montreal accept if there isn't a primary piece coming back and in this it feels like you just threw 2nd pick value assets to the wall until the offer seems like it's good enough. I'd say the talks would start with Holloway, a short term cap dump/contract (Mike Smith? Duncan Keith? for buyout) and a mid round pick for Toff, Chia and a mid-late round pick.
