"Definitely not for that?" Then what kind of realistic trade would he be a part of? Millers a bonafide top line forward who can play C and you're getting him extremely cheap for 1.5 years

They won’t be considering trading Newhook. He’s part of their future and key to their competitive window being open as long as possible

Newhook falls into the category of MacKinnon, Makar, Rantanen, Landeskog, Byram and Newhook. To get any of those guys (Landy has a NMC) it is going to have to be an obscene overpayment. That’s the core of the team for the next 5-10 years. You don’t trade core pieces especially one that is the 2C next season and cost controlled for a year and half of Miller. Now if you were talking about moving EP then yeah Newhook is part of that discussion but that’s not happening, but you would have to be talking about something like that. The Avs wouldn’t trade Newhook for Miller that’s just fact.

avs don't need a bonafide tope line player who can play C. Miller is good but hes going to be 30 years old when hes contract is done and avs cant extend him. Why would the Avs trade newhook for a guy who would be probably the 6th most best player on the roster behind the top line and Makar Toews.

If avs were ever to move newhook it would be for a player that the team has long term control over bc that is what Newhook is for the Avs, a dynamic player who is cost controlled and will be on the avs for quite a long time during the avs cup window, Unless a team comes calling for that, avs arent moving newhook for what is essentially pending UFA rentals

Newhook is more or less Colorado's only potential 2C of the future. As a player/prospect, he's nearly untouchable from a talent perspective alone. But when you combine it with organizational need, he's just fully off the table.

The one possible exception would be if a young, proven C under contract for a good while became available for some reason. JTM isgood, but he doesn't meet the criteria.

I like JTM. I would like to see JTM on my team. Not for Newhook, see above. Value is about there not the problem. Unlike some of my other fellow Avs fans, I would do a JTM for Barron + 1st, maybe throw in bowers. Helleson is great, more shut down D but in our bottom 4 that will be kind of needed with EJ coming off the books in 2 years. Barron is the best choice for EJs replacement, but in order to get one has to give. Avs don't need a top 6F, scoring is not a problem for the highest scoring team in the NHL, but JTM maybe that pc to push em over the edge. Plus I am a fan of his 2way game. And the extra year is the tipping point for the trade for me. Avs will lose one if not two of their 2nd line this summer, because they can't afford them in two years. Next year they are still golden. He would be a quality stop gap until Newhook and OO are ready, again hopefully in MacKs and BBs re-sign year. Not too many high quality Fs with just 1 yr left under contract in the 5mil range that would be worth the cost (top prospect + a 1st ect.) Drouin - NO, Zucker- NO, Dads - NO, JTM -Yes.

Right, why would you want to add more skill in a cup contention window. Maybe because this core has never exited the second round?

Fine if you don't want to trade Newhook - but laughing like Miller isn't worth close to as much is wild. Miller would lead the Avs in points (Rant has better rate), kills penalties and is a force at driving play.
