MY CAPLOCK IS STUCK

Created by: MTLaveragefan
Team: 2022-23 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 3, 2022
Published: Jan. 3, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This team is a train wreck this year...

Injuries, Covid, Ducharme (the first two, make him look worse)

The players look depressed from loosing the cup. I believe that next year, they will be competing - but they should sell their UFA (obv.)

However, players with good contract should stay with the team. A team still needs veterans.

Allen is not worth more than a late 3rd at best. If you think you'll get 2 firsts and a second for him you'll be very disappointed.

He's got Chiarot in there too but that's not nearly the right value.

You've wildly overestimated the value of your players and, except for Drouin, severely underestimated the negative impact of their bad contracts. In particular, one season of Allen and a quarter season of Chiarot is barely worth one first, not two; Gallagher is worth maybe a fourth to Los Angeles, not a second plus a young prospect projected to be a top-4 RD in one or two years (i.e., before Gallagher's contract runs out); and Price's trade value is nearly nil until we see how he emerges from the Player Assistance Program.

Rangers decline. We cannot afford Drouin cap hit next season. Edmonton, Nashville, Los Angeles and Seattle all decline as well.

Chiarot fetches a 1st alone and Edmonton doesn't need Allen. The Seattle trade is not good, remove Dvorak and Gourde or something. I'm thinking the Avs or the Oil will be in for Price and Drouin but at what cost is the question?

I guess we all missed the memo that Chiarot became Ray Bourque as well,

Gally is a perennial 30 goal scorer who drives play and gets the dirty goals in front of the Net. The weird circumstance for the habs this year + injuries are importants factors in his performance this year, but on any team he would be a leader.

We both know that Chariot (in the void) is not worth a first, but that he will probably get it due to the market.

LOL Nashvill accepts not to get the cap recapture that comes with Weber's retirement.

And on any other team he would be hideously overpaid, both in cap and compensation. He turns 30 at the end of the season and is signed for FIVE MORE YEARS at an annual cap hit of $6.5 million. Of the SoCal teams, only Kopitar and Doughty have higher cap hits. Moreover, in the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 seasons (that is to say, NOT next season) he is due to be paid a total of $17 million. The risk that by then his production won't nearly be enough to justify a significant expenditure to acquire him now devalue him enormously. I'm convinced that neither the Kings nor the Ducks would be willing to bet more than a third or fourth on him.

in your trade you have Chariot getting more than a 1st....lets say for argument sake you do get a 2nd for Allen , which I do think that is still too much for 1 year as a back up goalie, so you have Chariot getting a 1st and a very good prospect in Bourgault. That just is way way too much.

You might get a 1st for Chariot is you retain his contract and take back a contract for a team who wants to dump one. But you arent getting a 1st and a really promising prospect. Chariot is just to that good. He has some sort of pumped up value bc of the Playoffs, but in reality hes a 4/5 Dman who plays physical. Hes not a top pairing Dman, and hes not a guy you have anchor your 2nd pair, he is a guy you add to help your 2nd or 3rd pair. His skating his sub par, his passing is sub par. Hes just a physical stay at home dman who got away with playoff hockey cross checking and got labeled a warrior.
