Continuation of Wishful Thinking

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The Yamamoto/Olofsson from a prev post of mine.. Sign Olofsson/Jeese P to a short term bigger money deal(until the buyouts/retained salaries are all done, and the cap starts trending up steadily again)..
In Order to make the cap work, try to deal Ryan with an asset of sorts for a younger cheaper player that can fill out the bottom 6 C/F's...
In a perfect world, possibly Kassian could be used as bait, but you're gonna need to eat some salary(but the dude is LOVED in the room, so I would much rather keep him for the duration of his contract), another prime candidate would be Barrie in most people's eyes-mainly because Bouchard can "take his spot" but again I refer back to the reason I would keep Kassian- he's a great room guy and has been beloved in every room he's been in.. The biggest waste of Cap Space IMO is Cody Ceci, he could be easily replaced, I'd even prefer to keep Lagesson or slot Koekkoek on the right side rather than give this dude the mins and $$ he's getting.. I've tried to be positive since the Oilers brought in Holland, and people from the Det forums warned us about terrible cap management, and this year has been very very evident of it.. Ryan and Turris being virtually the same player, could've saved $1.25m this and next year and let McLeod takeover the 3rd line C job while pushing Turris to the 4th or platooning with Shore as the 4th line C.. Let alone the Neal buyout, yes he was not worth the money he was getting, but $1.9m in dead cap space for 4 years(saving $3.9 for this and next year) rather than buying out Koskinen saving the $3m this year and only paying $1.5m next season, OR with the reports in the summertime saying there was interest in him, trade him ANYWHERE and retain up to $1.5m(pray that you only need to retain $1m) and have NO dead money next year at all, and look to buy out Neal next offseason, when it only costs 2 years of dead money, rather than 4.. It's mind blowing the absolute mismanagement for this team right now...

You've done nothing to improve goaltending or defense, and your bottom-6 is worse than ever before. I'm not seeing any progress here...

There's not much you can do at this point... With the cap situation being what Holland has tied this team up with, unless you deal Barrie or Kassian, or Ceci for a goalie, or a combination of 2 of them, they're gonna have to roll with your boy Smith at 40 turning 41, and hope Skinner and/or Konovalev progress to a legit NHL goalie who can be the heir apparent to the starting gig.. As for the defense, I really think if Tippett would be more flexible with the pairings, the numbers wouldn't be as god awful as they have been.. Bouchard still has some seasoning to do, why not put Barrie back with Darnell, and move Bouch to the 2nd pairing with Keith, this way he still gets his minutes and plays an important roll with a future HOF, while Ceci plays in the bottom pairing which helped him last year(as I mentioned in my notes, I think he was an absolute useless signing, Barrie is far better offensively, and Bouchard has been better defensively) I'm not saying he is useless, but at $3.25m for the next 3.5 seasons- it's already a significant waste of cap space and a roster spot.... Take a look at how the team played without him during those couple weeks he was out, literally would be better off slotting Koekkoek on the right side with Niemelainen or Lagesson, and it would be roughly the same outcome for what they are now, just takes $3.25m off the books, to possibly use towards goaltending....

Yamamoto + 1st for Olofsson is the only trade offer that BUF considers.

Yamamoto for Olofsson seems to be an interesting deal as Buffalo adds a RH RW and trades a LW where they have other options.
I think Edmonton would need to add more than a 3rd to consummate the deal as Olofsson's production (135 games, 38 goals, 93 pts) is significantly better than Yamamoto (112 games, 26 goals, 58 pts) over the past three years.
I made a trade Pysyk and Hagg for Barrie.

Most Sabre fans hated it.
They are used as Buffalo's shut down pairing which could be an interesting option.
Olofsson, Pysyk, Hagg and 2023 2nd for Yamamoto, Barrie and 2022 1st.
Probably favors Buffalo but it would be interesting.

It's not a bad offer, I just don't see Edmonton dealing their 1st unless they are getting a goalie, and dealing Koskinen in the process.. And I really don't think they'll do Barrie dirty like that and send him to a rebuild in Buffalo when he kind of took a discount to stay in Edmonton, nothing against Buffalo, they look significantly better than last year, but just don't see them as a playoff team this next, or the year after yet..

I am not the Buffalo Sabres GM (I am sure that is good thing), Let's make it Olofsson, Pysyk, and Hagg for Yamamoto, Barrie and 2022 2nd.
I know nearly all Buffalo ACGM are in love with Olofsson, but the Sabres have many options at LW but ONLY Tuch at RW and only Jokiharju at RHD.
As I said most Sabres fan hated the Barrie and Yamamoto trade.
Most Sabre fans would accept Olofsson being traded for a RHD, I do not know if they would want Barrie.
TBH with you, at the end of the day, if the second was not included, Buffalo would still be a better team with Yamamoto and Barrie, please do not tell any of the other Sabre ACGM's I said that.
Finally, you are correct Buffalo is moving in the right direction so Barrie could be part of that movement.
