Exactly, in five years the Sens will be better than everyone not named Detroit in the Atlantic.

I feel like this is pretty accurate for the most part. BUF being a contender in 5 years might be a bit of a stretch, but I like the bold move there. Personally, I think you might have Vegas a bit high. They are already cap strapped, and they keep trading away their first rounders, they really are not looking at the future.

TOR depends entirely if Matthews resigns or not. I think he will so in my books they are contenders still but I also may be a tad biased

True. In 5 years Marner is still on the books but yea. Nylander could resign, but if he doesn't the question becomes will Amirov/Robertson be able to fill his shoes well enough. I think Tavares will be converted to LW by the end of his contract and we'll have to get a 2nd line center. What gives me the most optimism is the future of the D though. I think Rielly-Sandin-Niemela-Liljegren as your core 4 moving forward, provided that you sign a couple of big bruising defencemen to go with them, could be insane

The only Jets player under contract for the 2026-27 season is Morrissey so I have no idea how it turns out. The big events will be when Scheifele's and Hellebuyck's contract end after 23-24.

Kuch, Point and Vasilevsky will still be under contract for TBL so they should still be decent at least, but their cap issues might be an obstacle. The Atlantic division was the hardest one for me to predict since every team will probably be competitive.

I don’t fully trust Pierre Dorian and I definitely do not trust Melnyk, so it’s hard to say

Buffalo has a solid prospect pool so if they all develop and Granato continues being the coach he is, I see the Sabres being at least in the mix. And you’re right about Vegas, they might even be at the bottom of the pacific once the Canucks and Kraken build up

True… quite possible with the amount of draft picks they have.

I can agree with them having a solid prospect pool, but that isn’t the problem. It’s the developing that’s the problem. No matter how you look at it, BUF has drafted really well the past few years. But when it comes times to develop their players, a pattern I have noticed is that when someone appears to hit a rough patch, they get traded away and become really successful somewhere else. The staffing changes they have made have made this team a heck of a lot better, but the true snake in the apple orchard is the ownership. As long as the Pegulas are in ownership of the Sabres, I really can’t see the Sabres as contenders. And yes, at some point, the playoff drought will come to an end, but whether that is because of the Sabres being good, or their divisional rivals stinking up the ice, that is left to be determined. 5 years might be optimistic, but it is possible. As I see it, 5 years from now, assuming the cap goes up, I can see the top 4 teams in the Atlantic being Detroit, Ottawa, Buffalo, and then Florida. Tampa and Toronto will fall out of contention due to pricey contracts, and Florida might hit a rough patch due to cap issues starting next year with the Barkov extension and Bob’s big contract. Montreal has to make better drafting, but more importantly, trade decisions. Boston will fall out of contention due to age, and possibly cap issues. As it is, Boston is really only managing to cling to that second wild card spot in the east this year due to Detroit not capitalizing on the extra games played so far.
