Not sure what this guy is doing but I dont trust him for the TDL

Created by: Kyle_Davidson
Team: 2021-22 Chicago Blackhawks
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 5, 2022
Published: Jan. 5, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Trades in the Kyle Davidson era thus far

Malcolm Subban for Literally nothing

Chad Krys for Kurtis Gabriel

Alex Nylander for Sam Lafferty

So what’s the deal with these trades? They aren’t blockbusters by any means but it seems like the common theme is trading future potential for nothing in particular.

Are we confident in Kyles ability to handle the deadline after these trades? I wouldn’t be surprised if we acquired a couple more bottom 6 guys at the deadline in exchange for our tradable assets.
Trades
1.
CHI
  1. Subban, Malcolm
Additional Details:
Subban hasn’t set the world on fire with his play in Buffalo, but I think he would have been a nice player to have for when the hawks two goalies tested positive for COVID. Not a huge fan of putting Söderblom out there when this season has not had an obvious focus on development.

My point, even if it’s nit picky, would be that we wouldn’t have to put out what would be our 4th and 5th string goalies if this trade hadn’t been made.
BUF
    Literally nothing
    2.
    CHI
    1. Krys, Chad
    Additional Details:
Chad Krys isn’t a blue chip prospect by any means, but he was still a prospect and I wanted to see what he had in the NHL before we either non-QO him or traded him. Can’t see any upside for the hawks in this move other than to help the current team with a couple of hits?
    TOR
    1. Gabriel, Kurtis
    Additional Details:
I’m not sure what Gabriel brings to this team outside of the novelty of watching what a terrible skater he is.
    3.
    CHI
    1. Nylander, Alexander
    Additional Details:
Another move I just don’t understand, trading future potential and utility (even if it’s small) for a grinder type that can’t produce offensively.

It's just amazing to me that someone took a look at Sam Lafferty and thought, "I have to have that player." lol

I'm certainly not a fan either, I think part of this is him attempting to undo some of Bowman's mistakes. The underwhelming return for Lehner, the bad trade with Buffalo that lost Jokiharju. I'm hoping he takes a bigger swing at unloading Johnson to Seattle in the offseason and/or getting out of the Connolly contract. Slim to none chance, but would help them sign free agents that they actually need.

Honestly I see why they traded Nylander

Clearly he wasn’t gonna improve much in Chicago I wonder if he has much of a role in Pittsburgh but I honestly doubt it

It also could be for Nylander, he clearly was out of favour in Chicago, hopefully he can make a career for himself in Pittsburgh but he probably is a bust.

The Penguins prospect pool is the worst in the league. They need whatever additional depth they can get their hands on. Even if there isn't much potential there for them to work with, and at this point Nylander is just barely a prospect at all. He's a prospect in name only really.

Still, I'm not all that certain Hextall holds onto him either. I feel like he acquired him more to package with something else to make a bigger move down the road. Even if it's not immediate.

    Just my two cents anyway.

As a Wild fan, I know exactly why Davidson acquired Gabriel.

    1) He's a lockerroom heart and soul type of guy, and was up until he left our organization the team Captain for our AHL affiliate down in Iowa.

    2) Protection... as using those oversized fists of his to beat the living daylights out of whomever his opponent is in a fight is just about all he's good for. Aside from #1 of course.

Nylander has been a bust in Chicago and wasn't going to get anymore chances. He clearly was not inline in Rockford to be called up, not that I agree he shouldn't have seen 5 to 10 games again, but he doesn't bring much to the ice at this point in the NHL. I'm guessing his Father and agent were also pushing the Hawks for a trade as well.

Imagine trading a NHL player for him. I get Jokiharju isn't a game changing player, but he's playing top 4 in Buffalo and would probably be playing on 90% of NHL teams...better then what Nylander has shown. Another terrible Bowman trade. Bowman did a great job of destroying the franchise the last 5 seasons after being handed a cup winning team when started.

Sorry, Krys is NOT an NHL prospect. Seems to be mid AHLer at best. Teams "don't see what that have in the NHL" before they DQ him. He obviously isn't NHL good.

Well Gabriel played two games for the Hawks this year. Krys, his entire NHL career, he has many games played as I do.

You realize they waived Subban at the start of the season and anyone could've claimed him for nothing, right? They wanted to get Söderblom more starts and had too many goalies, it was a good movie. The Kyrs trade wasn't great but there's a logjam of D prospects and he was taking ice time away from better prospects. And finally Nylander...we all know he's potential and nothing else. He's never going to be anything and the fact that he couldn't crack the Hawks active roster at any point this year is telling. The guy has 12 points in 23 games this year...in the AHL! He can't play bottom six and won't ever reach is potential of top six. He'll be 24 in May and some guys are late bloomers but he's not showing any signs of that.

Overall they are a bunch of nothing trades that simply open ice time up for better players. I'm excited to see what Davidson can do at the deadline.

332 career AHL games and 51 career NHL games says differently.

He is by definition a career AHL'er. But to say he's not even an ECHL level player is doing him a pretty big disservice.

We make up for our lacklustre trades by excellent drafting and decent free agency signings

It's pretty much a nothing trade. Nylander had his shot. There wasn't much there. Maybe Crosby can carry him to a 30 goal scorer but I doubt he gets that kinda chance in pit.
Lafferty will probably just fill in the bottom 6 when we trade away khaira, carpenter, borgstrom...
