Team: 2021-22 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 6, 2022

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Trades
1.
BUF
  1. 2023 5th round pick (NYR)
NYR
  1. Eakin, Cody
Additional Details:
Eakin is the Sabres best faceoff man and knows the coach as we went to the finals with him a couple years ago. The Rangers need to improve at the faceoff dot as one of their needs and Eakin could be a nice bottom six add for a playoff run.
2.
BUF
  1. 2022 4th round pick (VGK)
Additional Details:
The Red Wings have a last wildcard playoff spot in reach, they need to be more physical though, and Robert Hagg is the Sabres most physical defenseman who will have some trade value. I don’t think the Red Wings will do anything overly crazy, but this should be a decent affordable pickup
3.
BUF
  1. Hakanpää, Jani
  2. Khudobin, Anton
Additional Details:
Buffalo has been linked to Khubodin and may look to add one more veteran goaltender to the fold not for this year, but next year as well. The Sabres would move forward with UPL, Anderson (when he returns), Khubodin, and Subban with Tokarski returning to the AHL for sure. Anderson is a huge question mark at this point. Khubodin could be an option for next season to compete with Subban for backup responsibilities.
DAL
  1. Hinostroza, Vinnie ($200,000 retained)
  2. Miller, Colin ($1,900,000 retained)
Additional Details:
Buffalo also acquires Hakanpaa and makes a move for the next couple years. Hakanpaa has size, is a physical stat-at-home and is more capable of playing a top four role if needed as a partner for Dahlin or Power next year, than a guy like Hagg who is best suited for the bottom pair. He has two years left.

Dallas may be sellers at the TDL, but they are still in the wildcard hunt and have a shot at the playoffs. They need scoring help however, and to clear some cap space. I don’t expect them to do anything crazy in terms of buying , so Vinnie Hinostroza works here as an affordable option, and Colin Miller’s expiring contract goes the other way too help fill Hakanpaa’s spot.

Detroit isn't going to make the playoffs this year but they do need LD for next year. If there's an extension in place Hägg could be a good choice.

I wouldn't hate it as long as the value makes sense... This offer is fair for sure

Hagg sucks though, Detroit needs a top 4D to help shelter Edvinsson, Johansson, etc.

Hagg is fine... don't go overboard saying he sucks... he's not great, but he's a MASSIVE upgrade to DeKeyser and he wouldn't be paired with them anyways, as he's a LHD... he'd probably be a good steadying partner for Hronek for now, and a 3rd pairing guy for a shutdown pair next year...
This year:
Leddy-Seider
Hagg-Hronek
Staal-Lindstrom

Next year (hopefully):
Lindholm-Seider
Leddy-Hronek
Hagg-Lindstrom

Look at those and tell me that wouldn't fit?

Obviously, we shouldn't give up major assets, but for a late 4th, why not?

Nah Hagg sucks I’m not going to sugarcoat it. Ask any Philly fan or watch the Sabres for a few games. He isn’t a top 4D and there’s also plenty of bottom pairing defensive guys as FA. What you did was exactly what I said was the best course of action minus Hagg. No need to at the bottleneck to our system.
