lowest of the 1sts (worst). I have banged against trading picks in a rebuild, but making sure Power (or Dahlin for that matter) is aided at the beginning of his career and rounding out the biggest weak spot (RHD) is quite important.

Buffalo too, but there are players who play well. Just when I see that some Montreal fans are evaluating Savard for 3rd and here we pay 1st. Therefore, I want to understand what is the real value of Savard now.

Honestly Savard don't worth a 1st. And honestly I dont think that we are in a position to trade him, We don' t many RHD to replace him and having some good veteran like him in a rebuild that's important

Jesus a 1st for savard?!? As a habs fan, I could not accept that quick enough. I’d just accept right away. Not even try to get more…that’s be a home run and a highly doubt it would ever happen. Like id honestly take a 3rd for Savard

He struggled to start the year. Has been pretty solid since. Still has the odd bonehead play, but he is currently playing with the Laval Rocket and ECHLers on his team, so some of that might be broken communication with a patch work roster.

If Habs are thinking of trading Petry in the offseason, Savard might not be available unless he requests it. (Having a defensive defenseman on a cheap contract that appeases the french fans, not a bad thing to have. Habs prospect pool is SHALLOW on the RHD, so no one is even pushing him out of the lineup anytime soon.)

Savard being in the lineup is worth more than a 3rd. Out of all the players Montreal should be having a fire-sale with, Savard is pretty far down that list. Position, Term, Cap, Hertitage, these are all working in his favour if he wants to be a Hab.

Thanks for the detailed answer. I would not pay 1st for Savard, but maybe some other deal, I want to understand what Montreal is going to do next season, restructuring or will it try to fight for the playoffs?

Not that Buffalo has many RDs prospects, but there are guys like Laaksonen and Fitzgerald, maybe one of them could be part of the deal, since we need an experienced RD in the top 4.

We also want to know what Montreal is doing next year. lol. Hoping for a Gorton/Sather Rangers style declaration to the Season Ticket Holders. It just happens to be one position that we are shallow at, and basically would want him for the same reasons (+french/Montrealer).

    Maybe I over valued Savard.

In fairness, 9 months ago, 14 games of him (plus playoffs) was worth a 1st, 3rd and 4th

That was as a rental, he now has 3 more years at a very digestible contract ($3.5M). I think some fans just **** on other teams players in the comments. Some people undervalue any player thats not known to produce offensively. Even for a late first, doesnt make much sense for Habs to trade him, especially since he would fill the same role in Montreal that you want him for in Buffalo.

It wasn't though. Just because Tampa payed that doesn't mean he was worth it. They paid based on reputation.
Seriously, look at Savards numbers the past 2 years. He's DONE, he's a cap dump. Montreal would have to pay to move the contract. This is horribly out of touch with reality.

Look at his actual play though. Goals for and against when on the ice this season and last:

    CBJ: 15 GF - 41 GA
    TBL: 2 GF - 10 GA
    MTL: 17 GF - 29 GA

His GF% rel has been negative in each of the most recent 3 seasons and 4 of the last 5. He's a cap dump.

Thank goodness GMs are smarter than to base all their decisions on +/- and analytics...

This isn't +/-!! tears of joy

And all the smartest GM's are well known to base their decisions on analytics.

Two really bad takes by you.

Yes, please do keep him. He's a big part of the reason Montreal is trash this year.
