Is Nashville for real Just for kicks

Created by: exo2769
Team: 2021-22 Nashville Predators
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 7, 2022
Published: Jan. 7, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is just for kicks. Nothing serious.

Nashville has a lot of cap space. They have a deep farm system. And VERY much to my surprise...they're currently in 1st place in the central. Even Long term they have $16M available next year with only Forsberg as the lone UFA needing to be extended. RFA status for Trenin and Kunin help out.

Why the heck would Nashville even consider that? 2 young players with high upside and a 1st for 2 washed up veterans? That doesn’t seem like a good trade. I don’t care that they are 2 of Chicago’s best players, it’s not worth it from a Nashville point of view.

Hawks would get a better return trading toews and Kane separately. And this is gross. How dare you suggest they put on those disgusting jerseys.

Nashville has NEVER won a Stanley Cup. That's the sole reason for playing the game. To win it all. Saros isn't going anywhere. He's already tremendous. Askarov is a good piece, but do you really want him to be a backup? Askarov likely won't even play in the NHL for ~3 more years.

I mean, from a fan perspective, sure, that's the sole reason for playing the game. There's a heck of a lot more factors to it when it comes to ownership, management, and actually playing the game though.

100% agreed. Money is a factor for sure. NSH is in luck there too. Toews/Kane already got their signing bonus this year paid by the Hawks so NSH only pays ~$2.9M...COMBINED...for this year's playoff run. Yes, there's payments next year for $13.8M, but the revenue they'd bring in probably just from jersey sales would make that up.

With the exception of Askarov...neither the 2022 pick nor Svechkov are truly superstar prospects. and Askarov would just be Saro's backup for at least 4 more years in the best case scenario.

Were two of Chicago's best players. Kane still has some game left for now, but Toews is a shell of his former self.

I think you're dramatically overestimating how much Preds fans would want to have Kane's name across their backs - even in NSH's cool colours, instead of Chicago's sad outdated rags Winking with Tongue Out

It's a terrible offer for NSH. Yeah, Kane still has some skill left, and could contribute commensurate to half his cap hit. I don't see him being a good fit for NSH though. Toews has negative value, even with that retention. Taking a divisional rival's expensive problems off their hands, and gifting them the equivalent of three 1sts for the honour is madness.

I wouldnt want Toews because I don’t think he’s any better than the centers were using but Kane is another story if he waves. What would be the price for only him?

Kane alone would still be an A prospect & 1st round pick. Below is what Taylor Hall got for just 1 year. Kane has two years.

I’d give up a first and an A prospect for Kane. Kane is still an elite talent that would make any team way better. I honestly think he’ll fetch more. My wife is from Chicago and a huge Blackhawk and Kane fan. I would love to buy her a Kane predator jersey lol

Hall was five years younger at that time than Kane is now, his cap hit (with the retention from NJ) was only $3M and didn't come with the obligation of paying an over the hill player for another year, and that trade came pretty early in the season. ARZ had the option of having Hall for a playoff run like they did, or flipping him at the deadline if they were out of the running. It's not an ideal comparison.

I have to disagree with you. I'm not in favour of NSH giving up those kind of assets for a playoff run this year, but if they were to do that, Kane wouldn't be my target. He's still talented, but he's lost a step. More importantly, I think he's lost a lot of fire and desire too. If NSH were to bring in the kind of player that would cost a 1st+, I'd be targeting someone like Hertl instead of Kane.

Im not saying you’re wrong. Hertl would probably gel better and would have a better chance to resign as well. My opinion on Kane is more on the personal level. my wife is a die hard hawks fan and she absolutely loves Kane. Just to see her in a preds jersey not bet related would be so worth it lol

Obligation...??? If anything it means NSH should pay more.

Fair enough. I've had to put up with Imagine Dragons in the name of love - I get the sacrifice you're making, and hope she appreciates you for it.

If you feel the 34 yr old season of an already declining player has a lot of value. I don't believe Kane is going to experience a resurgence or anything in that year. Probably the opposite.

Let's pretend your right rhat Kane has digressed. You do know he's still a point per game player and that's when EVERY opponent is purely focused on stopping him. Imagine what Forsberg can do when the focus isn't on Forsberg. OR vice versa because teams don't have multiple shutdown lines.

What's to pretend? Kane is having his worst ever season statistically. His goal scoring is way down. He's not the player you remember. If teams are putting all of their focus on stopping him, that says more about the dearth of talent in Chicago than it does about the player Kane currently is.
