Barrie for Chiarot should do it in a one for one trade, no need to add the 1st Rounder

It's for the retention-

But yeah, it's technically 1 for 1.

Give them the 2nd, Lavioa And Koski would be good for the trade for Flower, give the Habs the 2nd

makes no sense to give up that much for a rental. better to use it in a package for a longer-term solution

Are you high? Montréal isn’t getting a first round pick for retaining around $500K.

Even still, you move out Chiarot and his 3.5 Mil to bring in 4.5 Mil Barrie and 3.5 Mil on Fleury and we are now extremely over the cap. Basically you swapped Chiarot for the retention and and added 4.5 Mil without making another move from the Habs at that point we may as well retain 4.5 mil on Price and at least get some good assets back

I'll be peeved if Gorton doesn't use some of his teams leverage to 3 way retain on trades at the TDL. There are so many options out there for easy picks this year. Kessel, Fleury, Subban, Giroux, Forsberg, Giordano, etc etc.

As for the trade, the Habs can get a 1st for Chiarot without having to add a guy like Barrie in the process. Habs have the highest cap in the league this year and going into next year as well, they need to be shedding cap, not adding to it.

Disclaimer: Im assuming we're rebuilding. if they are going for it again next year then that changes everything obviously.

$3.5M retention

And Montreal has no use for Barrie. So not sure what all this "1 for 1" talk is...

It’s $3.5 million for 30 days. So $500K.

Barrie is a different argument, I’m just saying that people clearly aren’t understanding how retention works.

This proposal would see the Oilers acquire significant cap space for this and the next two season, as well as a starting goaltender and capable veteran LD for a playoff run. The proposed cost is two valuable draft picks, a guy who has struggled this season and might be 4th or 5th among their crop of forward prospects, and a redundant offensive defenseman with a reasonable contract for the next couple of seasons.

I think Chicago might want more out of the deal, and I'm not sure Montreal is interested or able to take on dead cap hits for the remainder of the season.

Supply and demand. Not many LHD on the market and Edmonton need one badly. Theres gonna be a bidding war for him and hes gonna get more than a 1st and a cap dump. It would probably cost a 1st to even get rid of Barries deal
