Wheres Klingberg going

Created by: Jah1722
Team: 2021-22 Dallas Stars
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 7, 2022
Published: Jan. 7, 2022
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Pagnotta reported on NHL now that Klingberg has requested a trade. These are my top 3 destinations. CGY could upgrade Gudbranson and have three top 4RHD. A Hedman-Klingberg pair would be one of the best in the league. Or TOR finds a better partner for Muzzin.

Obviously cap is a bit of an issue but Klingberg’s cap hit should be rather easy to figure out if the team really wants him. It’s what the price would be to acquire him that might make it tough for some.

I can't see TOR being able to make enough room.
CGY is the most obvious one.

It’s 4.25M. There’s plenty of ways to make room for that cap hit. Just depends on how much cap space they’ve accrued over the season to determine how hard it would be.

Muzzin pair is the shutdown pair. That's not exactly klingberg's strong suit.

Leafs have offence from D pretty well covered.

Doubt they'd interested enough to outbid other teams.

They could, but they would have to trade their entire depth. They would give all their cap to like 8 players. You can't win that way.

They've accrued none. They've had a week or two without someone on LTIR.

You’re acting like 4.25M is some astronomically high cap hit. It’s rather low.

Useless to acquire him for only one year. They need to be able to extend him. And his extension will be quite bigger than 4,25.

I don’t have the numbers but I think Klingberg would be fine in a “shutdown” role. He becomes the puck mover on that pair and would help the possession numbers.

A transition team adding a massive upgrade to the back end makes a ton of sense.

A team interested in Schultz will be in on Klingberg is the only problem.

Tampa deosn't really need Klingberg. While he would be a nice upgrade what it would cost to get Dallas to retain 50% and another team to retain 25% wouldn't be worth it. Tampa's RD aren't that bad even though they're they aren't great on paper.

Pens in a trade involving Marino and an extension for Klingberg?

Many possibilities here since Dallas could retain up to 50%. That would make a Cap hit of 2,125M$. Peanuts for a contender.

So he plays 3rd pair over Gudbranson? Yes that should fix our depth scpring issue. Calgary only has so much cap space to work with and upgrading the 3rd pair is not the answer

That’s some tho. Taxi squad now will help if people get healthy. I just haven’t followed the injury designations for TOR this year so idk. But 4.25M is doable for any team.

Hedman not having to drag Rutta along would be a massive upgrade and I wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up in TB. They’re always going for it.

Exactly. But I’d imagine they’ll try their hardest to send him east unless the go full blow up. They’re still a solid team. So I’m not sure they want to just give up on the season but this makes it hard on the front office.

I am by no means saying Klingberg is a bad player, I think at that cap hit he is a TDL steal. The thing is Calgary DESPERATELY needs to upgrade their depth scoring at the TDL and would only consider looking for a top 4 dman if we had a major injury.

Anaheim's in playoff contention, why dont they add him?
