Why would Florida do this. They don’t need to swap D, they need to add depth at D. And they give up 2 picks and get back an older player that is not having as good a year as the player they give up. No!

Why would the contending Panthers want to downgrade their defense? Why don't you just take the Panthers out of this and try to work this between just the Habs and the Leafs?

But they aren't downgrading their defense here

Montour is miles ahead of Chiarot, lol grin

Ever since he left the disaster we call Buffalo, he's been a legit top4 dman

Then why am I always seeing Montour on the 3rd pair on the Panthers depth chart behind Gudas who is on the 2nd pair. Cause Gudas is a 3rd pair guy, not a top 4 D-man

Because Gudas plays well with Forsling, who has quite a small frame. They have chemistry

Heiskanen plays on the Stars's second pair behind Klingberg, but that doesn't mean he isn't a 1st pair defenseman

Just because two D-men have good Chemistry doesn't necessarily make them an ideal 2nd defensive pair

In this case, it does...

Just because Montour is better than Gudas doesn't mean he should play on the 2nd pair

What are you on? Gudas plays better with Forsling, that's why he's above Montour.

Are you really trying to argue that Chiarot>Montour??

You're damn right I am. I haven't heard any non-Panthers fan say that Montour is better than Chiarot, and Chiarot wouldn't be in trade rumours involving Florida if he wasn't better than a guy like Montour

Hey, until I hear someone else agree with you. I haven't heard any non-Panthers fans being all that high on Montour, I believe that Montour is doing better in Florida than he was in Buffalo, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's top 4 caliber

You never understood my original point. The Panthers are looking to upgrade their D. It is the number 6 D, and depth that will hurt them in the playoffs. Rank them where you want, but Gudas and Montour are currently our 4&5D. We wouldn’t want to give up either of them for D help. So this trade doesn’t work for the Panthers.

You don't watch the panthers. Just admit it. You don't know anything about Montour or how he's played, other than from stat watching. He is a clear top 4 defenseman and better than Chiarot.

Okay man, you've made your point. It's just a lot of people weren't fans of the extension Zito gave him in the off-season, but clearly it still worked out

Considering their cap situation, if the Panthers don't move out one of their own D-men, they have to look at moving out cap on the forward depth chart like Hornqvist or Vatrano. Truth is, the Cats don't have much cap flexibility, they have to move some good cap out to make room for Chiarot even with salary retained by the Habs
