Yes, but since then Vancouver has cleaned house from it's previous regime, so Schmidt would be walking into a very different environment heading back to the previous market he was with. Didn't consider that before you commented did you

The jets would be asking for more than a 3rd for a guy they would rather keep. Give us something valuable for him or walk.

Schmidt is having a nice season for you guys, but that still doesn't change the fact that his contract isn't great, and Hamonic is still a useful 2nd/3rd pairing guy

And the jets don’t want to move him. So you will have to offer something the jets don’t want to turn down.

He’s been one of the jets best d-men this year

Would you take a 1st 4th Sam Steel for Boeser then?

They might want to move him after this season if they either don't go far in the playoffs, or miss them altogether which still isn't out of the realm of possibilities

No from Winnipeg. The Jets are good with the defense they have. Adding a 7D does nothing for Winnipeg.

It makes no sense to downgrade from a top 4 defenseman to a 7D to gain a 3rd. You want a top 4 defenseman, offer something with equal value.

I still think he sticks around. A guy like Dillon is probably shipped out first. Schmidt has been good and the jets need their replacement offensive defensemen heinola to get his feet wet first. The jets will have the room to keep him, so I doubt he’s going anywhere even if they miss.

Yep, he has his moments (mostly cause he’s playing on his offside) but he has been great for us. Morrissey has been our best d-man hands down this year but Schmidt is a close second. Pionk has had a tough go for the past couple of months otherwise I would put him ahead of Schmidt. But we have no reason to move Schmidt right now.

Guess he just never clicked in Vancouver, but he’s on pace for a career year with us

I think if you take out covid, things might have worked out in Vancouver. You can tell Schmidty is a very extroverted and bubbly type of guy, the covid restrictions and isolation was very likely hard on his well being. Still happy for him with how he's been doing in the Peg

Fair that you don't approve of the trade, but nobody else sees Travis Hamonic as a 7th D-man besides you. He's injured right now, that is the reason he isn't in the Canucks lineup

Nothing really. He’s also been good. Just saying that if we need to make cap space, he’s going before schmidt

That's interesting to me because Dillon cost more to bring in than Schmidt, I guess because his cap hit isn't as high

Also schmidt was a buy low situation. Dillon was a buy high if anything

Yeah, I suppose. I'm trying to think of which teams would still be willing to buy high on Dillon if he's deemed expendable with the emergence of Heinola

I think there’s still a lot of teams who would be willing to pay that much, or near that much. I don’t think it’s a matter of which team. Many teams would make room for him, or delay brining a young guy up like the jets did.
